Match report

Overcast and cool playing conditions greeted players and spectators as Hahndorf Under 13’s took to the pitch against Murray Bridge United at Murray Bridge.

Hahndorf started off with the ball, kicking to the left.  However, Murray Bridge soon took control, pushing the ball into their forward line.  A clever steel by Hahndorf’s Jack Gaskin in the backline prevent an early goal for Murray Bridge, but it wasn’t long before the ball was back in Murray Bridge’s forward.  Hahndorf goalie Jackson Bidgood was soon put under pressure, facing a 1 on 1 exchange with Murray Bridges fast paced forward.  However, Bidgood made an excellent save and the ball was soon back in the mid field thanks for Eli Parykn’s quick running down the wing.  Coco Whinfield then took control of the ball, making a calculated pass into space to setup the forwards, but the Murray Bridge defence proved strong, and Hahndorf couldn’t quite get into position for a shot at goal.  With the first half nearing an end, Murray Bridge managed to push through the strong Hahndorf defence to secure the first goal of the match.

The second half was dominated by tight contests in the midfield, with Hahndorf’s Sonja Cook, Ashon Broadbent and Louis Moran kept busy with Murray Bridge continuing to intercept and force plenty of running play.  Rowan Gilroy and Emlyn Gilroy showed their clever foot skills, navigating through Murray Bridge’s mid and backline, but the opposition was quick to take charge.  The backline continued to be placed under pressure, with Caleb Earley and Chris Haynes showing strength in contests and pushing the ball back into the midfield.  Hahndorf’s Harry Wood provided space, running the ball along the midfield, and providing opportunity to the forwards.  A skilful run of play then saw the ball passed to Lawson Shotton, who took a shot at goal and managed to sneak it past the Murray Bridge keeper for Hahndorf’s first goal.  The final whistle blew shortly after, with the game finishing level at one-all.  A fantastic show of skill displayed by both teams.
