Match report

To finish the season both Woodside teams met each other under great conditions to play their last game of the season.

Again Woodside Blue called upon its U13 talent to help field a team for this final clash. In a game that was played in good spirits between teams, it was unfortunate to see players from the Woodside Red team be not so sportsmanlike towards some of their team mates.

When the game began it was the Reds that had the opening chance for a goal with a well taken corner hitting the cross bar in the opening five minutes. This woke the Blues team up who were relaxed after their win the previous night. The Blues started to find their passing game creating opportunities in front of goals but the reds keeper was out to spoil the party with some great work between the posts. In the midfield, the Reds girls were making it hard for the Blues players to pass and move, but as always the Blues three man defense stopped any attacking attempt in its tracks and ensured clearance out of defense were purposeful. As the first half came to an end neither team had managed to score.

The second half started along the lines of the first, with the blues in attack and the Red’s defence and keeper working hard to deny them a goal. However after 6 minutes the Red’s central defender was unlucky when a ball hit his arm in the penalty box and a penalty given. Woodside Blues speedy bustling forward again took the kick after scoring the following evening and opened the Blues account. For the next 20 minutes the Blues were made to work hard as the Reds fought hard to get the goal back but the Blues players were not having it and defended hard. The Red’s team though were making some inroads as the tired Blues were starting to make mistakes. Leaving a Red an opportunity to shoot from outside the box it looked to be heading for a goal if not for a final stretch by the Blues keeper that denied them an equalizer. With fifteen minutes left the Blues found their second goal from their speedy forward. With the lead Woodside Blue continued to push for a third but the reds closed them down. The game finished with a Blue victory but with most of these two teams heading to the U17s in 2022 the future looks good for Woodside.
