Match report

Blackwood Forest hosted the Round 16 U15 match vs Mount Barker at their home ground of Springbank Secondary College with kick off at 10am.

Mount Barker presented an organised team who went straight on the offense. They picked a hole in Blackwood’s defence and scored their first goal 10 minutes into the match. The goal against them rustled Blackwood into gear, however the 11 Blackwood shots on goal for the remainder of the first half were either off-target or deftly dealt with by the Mount Barker keeper. Mount Barker’s further attempts were fended off by the Blackwood side, seeing the score line Blackwood nil – Mount Barker 1 at the half time whistle.

The Blackwood team had an early scoring attempt a few minutes into the second half that went wide. The goal kick from Mount Barker was delivered well and the team skilfully ran the ball into their attacking half and past the Blackwood keeper to bring the score 0 – 2. The clouds rolled in bringing with them a drizzle of rain. The change in weather seemed to bring a change in luck for the Blackwood team and their first goal for the match was scored by Elisha S from a corner kick. Mount Barker looked to make it 1 - 3 a minute later however Blackwood keeper, Angus D, made a successful save. Blackwood answered straight back, with Elisha S’s next attempt hitting the post. Within the minute he was on the attack again and his second goal brought the score to 2 all.

The energy of the game lifted at this point and Blackwood’s Austin N scored a further goal for the home team. Possession shifted between the teams for the next 10 minutes, before Mount Barker took control once again. They had 2 further attempts landing wide and high before Blackwood’s on-pitch communication properly switched on and they passed the ball effectively to Liam D who scored the team’s 4th for the match. Mount Barker stepped up again, however their shot on goal was denied by the Blackwood keeper. Blackwood continued to talk to each other and asserted themselves on pitch. With minutes to go Elisha S scored his third for the match and Blackwood’s 5th. This was followed quickly by an attempt from Blackwood’s Ethan V that was deflected by the Mount Barker keeper and finished off by Austin N for the final goal of the match. The final score line: Blackwood 6 – Mount Barker 2

The match was played cleanly and fairly with both teams displaying great sportsmanship.
