Match report

Today’s match against Mount Barker United Blue began in balmy conditions but the rain was soon to set in. Hahndorf started strong, passing well, yet a fast, pint sized Mt Barker player found a small window to shoot for goal, hitting the post.

Congestion saw Mt Barker shoot for another goal but to no avail. Lachlan Gardiner‘s fast legs shot for a quick couple of goals but unfortunately the ball didn't find it's way in. A good save by Rowan Gilroy kept the ball out of Mt Barker’s striking  reach. There were goal attempts by Gardiner and Jackson Bidgood but the Mt Barker goalie was on point. A handball whistle blow allowed both teams to resume positions just as the rain set in. Hahndorf had plenty of subs to keep the legs fresh and much needed as all players were evenly running to both ends solidly.

Hahndorf kept the pressure on in the second half, with some fancy footwork by Caleb Earley in Hahndorf’s forward and timely defence by HuGo Curtis. A big kick by Zack Perkins defending well, bringing the ball back where Bidgood shot for goal but found the goalies gloves yet again. Jhett Frost’s big boot towards goal overshot, where the ball was recovered from the Carpark. A huge attempt by Gardiner to shoot for goal resulted in a collision but mt barker player #4 toughed it out and was back up and playing on. Mt barker showed solid defence but Hahndorf broke through for a great pass from Gardiner to Bidgood, shooting for goal, surely stinging the goalies gloves, being caught well. Lucca Falvo-Lopez then saved a strong run on single handedly. Ball back into play and a couple of attempts by Mt Barker keeping keeper Connor Castle on his toes, but still a goalless game. A great effort by both teams. And a big Thankyou to Graham Phillips for coaching the boys today while Eddie played his own game.
