Match report

Perfect playing conditions greeted players and spectators as Hahndorf Under 13’s took to the pitch against Strathalbyn Red at Rob Kilpatrick Park.

Strathalbyn were quick off the mark, taking early control of the ball. But Hahndorf soon took charge, with excellent defending by their backline players Harry Wood, Caleb Earley and Jack Gaskin. The ball made its way to the Hahndorf forward, with Lawson Shotton having 2 early attempts at goal, which were skilfully deflected by Strathalbyn’s goalie. However, the attack continued, and Shotton managed to sneak one past the goalie to secure Hahndorf’s first. Shortly after, Hahndorf’s Louis Moran found himself with a free kick just out from their goals. While the kick was clean, Strathalbyn’s goalie made a good block to prevent another goal. Cohen Whinfield manoeuvred into position, taking a shot at goal but again was blocked by the skilful Strathalbyn defence. The first half progressed, with Rowan Gilroy showing some fancy footwork in the midfield to delivery opportunities to the forwards. Shotton showed some great skill, finding the back of the net for a second time, followed by R Gilroy, and Harrison Gould. Rounding out the first half, Strathalbyn were able to secure a score after a strong kick from a penalty shot that made the back of the net.

Strong Hahndorf defence continued through the second half.  Skilled goalie Jackson Bidgood was stretched, making numerous saves under pressure. Strathalbyn kept the pressure on, with a running passage of play seeing Strathalbyn being the first of the two teams to make a mark on the scoreboard for the second half. The two teams continue to put pressure on each other, with Hahndorf’s midfield of Emlyn Gilroy and Eli Parkyn managing to push the ball into Hahndorf’s forward line. A surge by Strathalbyn’s midfield saw them secure their third goal of the match, but Hahndorf rallied. A flurry of 3 goals by Hahndorf late in the match was enough for them to secure what was a brilliant match.
