Match report

Cool and overcast, SDFC were running with a good breeze in H1. Despite this it was tough going with the Barker midfield and defence proving nearly impenetrable and its goalkeeper only getting light work for much of the early stages and most of the battle being confined to the midfield. In reply Barker were able launch some good but less frequent attacks. Most of these were easily covered. One however resulted in a good goal with two attackers and a lone defender leaving the SDFC goalkeeper stranded on the goal line and Barker’s striker taking a well-aimed and executed shot to the low LH corner. Stung by the deficit SDFC managed to achieve more penetration into Barker’s 18-yard box and one such occasion hit the mark. 1-1 at half time.

The second half saw a well-balanced match with both sides making good attacks against the other. SDFC, into the breeze, achieving this mostly with higher numbers while Barker, running with the breeze, typically more high paced entries involving just a handful of players. Sustained pressure and a high work rate saw SDFC force two more hard won goals. Barker however were left rue what might have been with three excellent one-on-one chances against SDFC’s keeper pushed just wide on each occasion.
