Match report

Everyone could feel the importance and tension of the final game of the season, This was Strath White and Stirlings last opportunity to climb the ladder. The game started with a bang, only 2 minutes into the game, Bonnie Clothier stole the ball and took it through the Stirling defence, scoring the first goal for Strath White. Stirling tried to even it out and attacked fiercely. They took a shot at goal, but Matilda Mundy (Strath’s awesome goalkeeper) saved it. With help from Savannah, who was playing strongly on the wing, Bonnie took possession of the ball again and shot an impressive goal. She tried to assist Leah Davis and help her score one as well, but Leah’s shot fell short. Savannah made up for it by scoring a beautiful goal, That makes two goals in two weeks, Nice work Savannah!. The defence line was tested as Stirling pushed through, with Hannah and Katie playing great games in defence. Stirling took a shot at goal and also had a corner kick, but without result.  Strath took up the attacking game again, with Layla Frahn trying to score but missing. Brooklyn Rigney executed a long cross to Bonnie, setting up the perfect opportunity for her to slot her third goal of the game. Great team work between the girls. The action mostly stayed up in Stirling’s end, with Strath attacking with determination. Brooklyn and Layla both tried to score, but Stirling was strong and wasn’t giving up, and didn’t let the ball through their defence. The halftime whistle sounded with Strath in the lead. Stirling would have to play their very best to catch up.

The second half of the game didn’t see Strathalbyn letting their guard down at all. Katie Wilson took a shot at goal early in, followed shortly by Gemma (both missed). Stirling didn’t get a chance to attack as Strathalbyn worked their hardest against the defenders. Katie and Gemma both played excellent games. Strath certainly put the pressure on Stirling, but Stirling kept fighting. They attacked the Strathalbyn goals with vigour, putting pressure on Matilda and testing the defence line. Hannah didn’t let them past and defended with speed and power. Gemma turned the tables in her team’s favour and scored an impressive goal by running it up the wing. Strathalbyn fought hard and took many shots at goal. None of them got past the goalkeeper, until Katie stepped up and scoring her first goal of the game! Stirling attempted to steal the ball back, but Hannah intercepted them, preserving Strath’s lead. The ball was taken back up to Stirling’s side, and Layla kicked an impressive goal from the edge of the pitch. Only a minute after, she scores again! The girl is a powerhouse. With only a few minutes left in the game, Strathalbyn was confident that they would secure the win. They earned a corner (taken by Bonnie Clothier) but nothing was achieved. Stirling was set to launch another attack, but the whistle blew, signalling the end of the game and sadly the season. It was an exciting final game to watch. Strath White are a strong team and have bonded as a group. They will be hard to beat next season.
