Match report

The 2020 season finally got underway with a frosty start to the last Saturday in June. Woodside hosted Stirling United in the U16 competition kick off, with many of the same players on both sides from previous years. Stirling United got on the board early thanks to a quick break and a delightful chip over the keeper from Henry Monaghan. Otherwise, both sides appeared a little rusty in the early going, and when opportunities did present themselves, shots were going wide or over the target. After 29 minutes, Nik Smith intercepted a pass out and ran the ball back in himself, dodging past a couple of defenders before powerfully hammering it home. The Stirling back 4 of Ky Henry, Emily Bouchereau, Kye McDonald and Nik Smith continued to control any Woodside attacks, and created many promising attacking chances.

After the resumption, Stirling had the majority of the play in their forward half, but Woodside were still getting opportunities at the other end, with crosses in the right place but not able to be put away and shots missing the target. Stirling continued to pepper the goals, with Araby Phelan unlucky to not have at least one to his name with multiple shots blocked and just missing, but it was a superb pass from new recruit Ryan Stevens that provided another chance for Smith who caressed the ball into the net, allowing Stirling United to take the points with a comfortable 3-0 win.
