Match report

Woodside U12 Red travelled to Murray Bridge to face Murray Bridge Gold. A 2.30pm late start found the Warriors enjoying a fixture basked in afternoon sunshine. Both teams started well and a relatively even contest between each midfield started to unfold.

Nate Dealtry, Finn Randell and Deagen Arnold started in defense and were troubled a few times on Bridge’s counter attack. Axel Vassos provided good support in goals and fed midfielders Elliot Klein, Rojo Nambiar, and Thomas Honner with good clearance balls which set up forwards Josh Constable and Finn Craddock with great passes deep into the Warrior’s forward line. Wingers Jamie Spooner and Jordan Virgara assisted with keeping the pressure on Bridge’s defenders. Half time saw Warriors go 4-1 up into the break. Still feeling the effects from the mid-week carnival and with no substitutes to call on the Warriors were again looking weary during the team huddle but agreed that more pressure needed to be applied to the opposing ball carrier. The second half saw a flurry of goals which collectively saw Nambiar, Constable and Klein all register hattricks whilst Cradock picked up a brace of goals. Defensively, Arnold played another stunning game and controlled the defensive zones and provided some great carry out of defense. Honner playing in an unusual midfield role also showed the Warriors that he can hold a counter attack at bay before it was carried into the Warrior’s defensive half. Some notable highlights included Nambiar’s goal from the corner kick and Klein’s stunning deft pass to Constable in front of the Bridge’s goal mouth led to one of the goal assists of the season.
