Match report

Hahndorf under 8s made their way to Summit on Saturday for a keenly awaited match up against Mount Barker United Red.

A tense start gave way to an evenly matched game. Both teams were applying pressure in the middle of the pitch, which lead to several chances for both teams to score early. Mount Barker were held off the scoreboard, with keeper Keelan Atkinson making several saves. Harris Parkyn opened up the play in the defensive side of midfield, chasing the ball across the pitch, followed up with a long pass that created an opportunity to score. Hamish Glynn showed his skills, controlling the ball well to take the ball into the forward. A pass from Glynn was picked up by Miles Hennessey for the first score of the day. Parkyn and Charlie Roeszler were fearless in defence, consistently pressing their opponents which allowed them to move forward to attack the ball. Sam Gardener was kept on his toes in the midfield, helping to move the ball forward in support of the defenders.

The second half presented more scoring opportunities for Hahndorf, with the team using more effective passing through the midfield to bring the ball forward. Eric Jager in defence consistently cleared the ball, on occasion linking up with Glynn who then found Scout Ramsey positioned well in the forward line. Michael Griggs took the next pass and shot the ball cleanly into goal. Feeling confident, Griggs scored again, then followed this up with a sizzling strike from midfield that clattered off the wood work and was unlucky not to go in. Atkinson and Ramsey continued to be effective in defence, on many occasions relieving the pressure on Parkyn who moved to keeper for the second half.

Another fantastic result for a team that is improving week on week!
