Match report
Another great day in the Hills for Woodside Warriors U12 Blue to meet Mt Barker United U12 Blue at Warriors home ground. Was set to be a good game with Warriors being 3rd on the ladder and United being top. Warriors came out the gate hard and fast knowing they would have to be on the ball playing against the top team. Warriors S.Cotton, R.Sutton, J.Mewett and M.Olsson dominating the first minutes of the game and keeping the ball in Warriors half. United pushed back though deflecting a few attempts at goal. Persistence paid off for Warriors when R.Sutton sinks the ball to the back of the net scoring the first goal for the game at the 10-minute mark. Tight defense from O.Boerth and M.Burroughes Stopped United in their tracks and sent the ball straight back to Warriors forward where R.Sutton shot the second goal only 1 minute after the first. After a bit of tussle back and forth a great chase down the field by O.Boerth pushed United runner wide, J.Lunnon came to help and the 2 Warrior defenders worked together to push United runner and ball over the goal line. Warriors defense M.Davis was quick on his feet and gained control of a few lose balls sending them back to his forward. Half time score was Warriors 3 United 0. Warriors players committed to keep the goals coming started the second half even harder than the first. There was a hunger in them that kept them pushing forward to watch their score rise. Warriors attackers S.Cotton, D.Silvestri, and E.Moylan worked well together and never gave up pursuit for the ball. P.Thomas in the middle was able to steal the ball form United and made clever passes to her teammates. Persistence from Warriors saw D.Silvestri score the first goal for the second half 9 minutes in. Bit of back forth between both teams saw Warriors defense tighten the reigns and deny United entry to their forward. Determination clear on the Warriors faces, all player continued to play hard and not slow down at all. A great effort at goal by Warriors W.Limbert was only just deflected by United goalie but R.Sutton reading the play came through , got boot to ball and finished it with a goal. W.Limbert not one to give up got control of the ball, shot and scored his first goal only 2 minutes after his previous attempt. R.Sutton shot the final goal for the game and what a cracker of a goal it was. From left of pitch and an all mighty kick it shot to the back of the net like a bullet just missing the crossbar. It was certainly a goal that got the crowd on their feet cheering. Warriors played as a well-coordinated team today and even with the goals racking up, they never once backed off or slowed down. Final score was Warriors 8 United 0.
