Match report

On a glorious day for football, the Hahndorf under 13's endured their first loss of the season, 1-4, against a very efficient Blackwood White team.

Hahndorf arguably had the better of the play in the first half with strong defending from Caleb Earley and Sam Griffiths at centre back setting up some scintillating wing-play from both Eli Parkyn on the left and Tom Gould on the right. Gould and Louis Moran both forced saves from the Blackwood keeper before a Blackwood penalty put the visitors 0-1 up. Beyond that, Blackwood's chances were few for the half, but an incredible double-save from Jackson Bidgood in goal kept the scoreline modest. Gould, Moran and Parkyn continued to keep the Blackwood keeper honest all with shots on target, and Noah Duggan had a great stint at left-mid after a position change before half-time.

The second half saw some position changes and the switch saw a lot more play and movement through Sonjae Cook and Flynn Menzies in midfield feeding Cohen Whinfield up front with through-balls, sadly again without the final product. Whinfield did hit a lovely strike from the edge of the box which needed saving but got hurt in the process and was forced off the field. However, most of the action in the second half was in Hahndorf's defensive half where, despite some tenacious defending and excellent positioning, Blackwood seemingly scored with every shot they took, quickly blowing out the lead to 0-3. Jack Gaskin at left-back and Harry Wood at right-back did show excellent composure though when playing the ball out through the midfield. The late game saw some excellent running from Olliver Ramsey on the wing, and a cross-come-shot from Cook almost sneaking into the top corner but sailing just too high and wide. Only some individual brilliance from Gould got Hahndorf onto the score sheet when he danced past a few defenders to the by-line and shot past the keeper from a very tight angle to make it 1-3. Blackwood soon came back with a goal of their own to regain their 3-goal cushion, and that was the way it stayed. Hahndorf beaten at home 1-4.
