Match report

The forecast rain thankfully held off for Hahndorf under 8’s third match of the season against Stirling Districts. With only seven squad members available and no opportunity to rest players, the Hahndorf team fought hard all day against a hard running Stirling side.

Owen Hoyle was the first Hahndorf player to take the offensive, shortly followed by an unsuccessful shot at goal by Josh Pettitt in the opening minutes. Stirling then controlled much of the play with Indie Dunning kept busy as goalkeeper and doing a great job to save numerous scoring shots. Hoyle, Oliver Knight and Joshua Blain worked hard in the midfield, defending the opposition attacks and pushing the ball forward. Knight also had a great shot at goal, which was unlucky not to be rewarded. Soren Mickan ran tirelessly all over the field to help out his team mates and take up the attack. Despite the valiant effort of Hahndorf’s defence, including Carter Hartley, Stirling scored the first goal of the game just before half time.

The second half started with a penetrating kick from Blain to restart Hahndorf’s attack. Mickan took on the goalkeeper role and made a number of impressive goal saves, although the team missed his run through the midfield. Stirling scored in the first few minutes and then again shortly after. Knight continued to work hard to bring the ball forward and Pettitt had another two shots at goal, but could not convert. Stirling scored another two goals before the final siren.

It was a tough contest played with great spirit.
