Round 6                        Stirling Vs Woodside Rams                    Birdwood Park

It was the beginning of winter, but it did not feel like it with the sun shineing and the air was warm.

We showed up ready for what was anticipated as one of our toughest matches for the season with our last match against Stirling finishing up with a defeat, all players rocked up early and were warming up with intent knowing we were going to need to be ready. Then a spanner hit us and the game before us was running about 50 minutes late so the girls calmed down took a seat and began cheering for the current game. At 3:00 pm. We began warming up again and gave it our all some running some passing some contested play and some goalie work.

The staring whistle blew with only 2 on the bench this time around. It was looking like we were here to play and press and press we were doing. We had a couple of players not in their usual position and so feeling a little un easy about the situation, but even though they were out of their comfort zone still they gave as much as they could to drive that ball forward to create opportunities.

First quarter was over and still scores were level, our first bench change made and a little confusion as changes were made and oh no Stirling was in our goal box a shot was taken and in it went. We were on the back foot again, but not for long birthday girl pushed up hard off the attack, drew all of the defenders she then passed it back which set up our mid field for a clean chance to run in and score. Level again game on.

Well the Woodside rams were fired up again and it was looking like Stirling were on the back foot again, or maybe not a flip in play direction get back defenders yells the coach it is up to the goalie and from next to no distance from the keeper the Stirling attacker takes the shot and Woodside Rams goalie gets a hand to it then dives on it what a save .

We did not like this kind of pressure and birthday girl took to it again this time it was her turn to put one through. Finally we were in front and halftime was only just around the corner.

Half time break lollies left the building like Dorothy in a tornado I managed to get the last couple by the skin of my teeth. Now the girls were revved up and wanting a win, it was not going to be easy though. Stirling put their attacker into defence and she meant they had a bit more pace than we had and getting through seemed impossible . a cross bar hit a shot over the top a couple just to the side, but nothing going in then a crack into the goalies hands and they are on the line a pause the ref thinks about it and no goal so closenearly got one. Now Stirling weren’t happy about it and into our defencive half they went and we just could not get it out of their. How much time is left we ask, but still a couple of minutes come on clock just get there. Oh no Stirling scored again we are now level. Can we do a quick score back again. No there isn’t enough time only 1 minute more and we would have won but we are still super happy with a tie next time we will get them.
