A glorious sunny day at Anembo Park provided the backdrop for a well fought duel between Hahndorf White and FC Summit White. Playing 9-a-side, the game got off to a cracking start. The Hahndorf attack line of Carter Karamanov, Zeek Neelawala and Noah Williams provided some thrilling moments against strong Summit defence. Intercepts and some fancy footwork were on display, with Williams providing the breakthrough first goal.
In the midfield, Charlie Kilpatrick showed tenacity in regaining the ball from the opposition and some excellent steals came courtesy of Magnus Palmer. The defence line up of goalkeeper Teddy Gilligan and players Patrick Griggs and Linus Doyle was solid, however the ball spent most of the time in Hahndorf’s attacking half, with Angus Bretag popping up everywhere to help Hahndorf’s cause. Karamanov and Williams shrugged off the Summit defensive pressure, until Williams was able to bend it like Beckham, cutting through a multitude of players to score Hahndorf’s second goal.
At half time, coach Brendan Kilpatrick commented that Hahndorf had just played their best half of soccer all season.
The second half saw Griggs move to the goalie position. FC Summit started strongly, opening their account with a quick goal. Good defensive work was seen from Hahndorf, but the Summit attack proved too intense, resulting in another good goal. Bretag popped up again providing good defence, and the whole Hahndorf team combined well to move the ball to their attacking half. FC Summit’s goalie was courageous against the Hahndorf attack, until Hahndorf scored again via Neelawala. A final burst of excellent teamwork from FC Summit resulted in them levelling the score.
Hahndorf White would like to thank FC Summit White for a thrilling and well-matched game.
