Match report

Ashton oval played host to this round 14 match between Rangers and Stirling United in U14 Division 1. Undefeated Stirling started well, with Toby Leigh scoring a simple tap in after 2 minutes followed by Henry Monaghan scoring to the left of the keeper with a typically clinical finish to extend the lead. Rangers then had a period in their attacking half, with a couple of half chances, with Stirling eventually breaking out of defence thanks to classic Ky Henry end to end run down the right hand side. Shortly after, Charlie Rollings was brought down in the area, with the resultant penalty being taken by Araby Phelan. The rest of the half saw Stirling have the majority of the chances, but a number of strong saves from the Rangers keeper kept them in it at half time.

Almost immediately after the half time break, Stirling had a purple patch where they put on 4 more goals to put the result beyond doubt. First a cross from Leigh was volleyed home by Monaghan, and 2 minutes later, Phelan turned onto his trusty left foot for another. Leigh got his second, and then to finish the scoring, a corner was sent in by Nik Smith, and Calan McCormick headed it home. The last 20 minutes saw no further scoring, but plenty of end to end play, with both team competing hard for an entertaining game which was closer than the scores suggest.

Stirling now prepare themselves for a mid-week semi-final cup clash, while Rangers continue their fight in the league next weekend.
