Match report

A sunny Saturday morning greeted players and spectators at Woodside Recreational Ground. There was an almost warm gentle breeze  and a  sniff of spring in the air!  Both teams were looking to secure a win and their place in the Top 8 of the competition

A 9:00am start, as scheduled, and Woodside kicked the game off . They were instantly attacking with a shot that missed high, up and over the cross bar. Mount Barker took a promising run soon after, but wasn't able to make the most of it. Equal possession for both teams but then a break for Woodside saw them secure a corner.  It was well taken but the referee ruled a Mount Barker handball in the box. This delivered Woodside a penalty right on the 9 min mark.

#3 for Woodside, Elliot Klein strode up to the spot and confidently placed the ball into the bottom left corner to deliver his team a 1-0 lead.

MT Barker recovered well and delivered some penetrating runs into the woodside attacking zone. Mount Barker striker Archer Hawkins threatened to even up the score but at the half time whistle Woodside maintained their 1 - 0 lead

The 2nd half got under way with both teams wrestling for control of the match. It was a very even tussle with both teams giving a 110%. Mount Barkers Taj Gore typified the intensity of the game when an accidental knock drew blood just below his right eye. Taj was forced to be substituted off until the bleeding stopped but soon returned to the game. Woodside pressed hard to close out the game but MT Barker goalkeeper Billie Goedecke pulled of some great saves and kept his team in the match.

The game was now a thrust and parry affair as the clock ticked down. Mount Barker pressed hard in attack as their coach urged his players forward to deliver the equalizer. Woodside were up to the task and at the full time whistle, carried the game with a well earned 1 -0 win.

Both coaches agreed it was a very even and entertaining game to watch - the game was played in good spirits as the players bumped elbows at the end of the match.

Woodside Red will now face Hahndorf White in the next round whilst Mount Barker Red will play Torrens Valley at Birdwood Park
