The dark clouds threatening to rain were no dampener on the spirit of the under 9 boys as they arrived at the synthetic turf of the Summit for their clash with Bridgewater.

Bridgewater had the best of it early, putting pressure on Hahndorf’s keeper Leo Davies, who was well and truly up to the task, stopping 4 searing shots sent his way. Hahndorf fought back with Charlie Roeszler, Harris Parkyn and Miles Hennessy combining together well in the middle move the ball and start probing the Bridgewater backline.

Despite this improved movement in the middle, play still seemed to be predominantly in the Hahndorf defensive half, giving Hamish Glynn plenty of opportunity to flex his defensive muscle. Notwithstanding Hahndorf’s valiant defence, the lines were eventually breached with Bridgewater scoring their first goal of the game. This was only after several forays forward being blocked by Angus Clifton and Saxon Sulskis.

Hahndorf fought back strongly after this set back with a crisp series of passes between Parkyn, Michael Griggs and Hennessy, which resulted in Hennessy sliding one past Bridgewater’s keeper for Hahndorf’s first of the season!

Hahndorf’s second half was highlighted by Grigg’s floating in his first goal of the season and a delightful passage of play involving Griggs putting a ball through to Parkyn, who on spotting Hennessy near the top of the box, crossed it to him for another Hahndorf goal. The defence of Clifton, Glynn and Sulskis in goals continued to frustrate Bridgewater’s efforts to add to their tally during the second half.

The boys will look to build on this result when they take on Murray Bridge at home next week!
