Match report

The Woodside Warriors Red Under 12's hosted Hahndorf Black on a beautiful winter's morning. Both sides were sharp out of the blocks and what ensued was a tense arm wrestle between the Warriors attack and a very disciplined Hanhdorf defence. The Warriors midfield through Rojo Nambiar, Finn Cradock and Jamie Spooner provided solid supply to forwards Nikos Aslanidis and Josh Constable. Unforutnately, their scoring opportunities were skilfully negated by Handorf's ability to get numbers back in their defence and force the numerous Warriors shots on goal wide. At around the 15 mninute mark of the first half, momentum swung towards Hanhdorf and it was their attackers who were wreaking havoc through the Warriors defenders. Nate Dealtry, occupied the Central Defence role and alongside him Thomas Honner and Jordan Viargara assisted with leading the resistance against the now very dangerous Hahndorf forward attacking press. Axel Vassos, who lined up between the posts again, was called into duty a number of times and made some good saves and despite a number of shots rattling the posts, the Warriors were fortunate to go into half time with a clean sheet. The half time debrief was a tale of what could have been. The Warriors chargers were challenged by their coach to capatilise and be rewarded for their efforts in attack. The second half saw the introduction of Gracie Llyod and Deagan Arnold who rotated the tiring Woosdie defenders who were still feeling the effects of a very good Hanhdorf offense's first half.

The first 10 minutes of the second half were almost a mirror of the first however, the Warrior's forward thrusts were becoming more dangerous. At the 15-minute mark Aslanidis broke down the left wing and dazzled through numerous Hanhdorf defenders with his slick ball movements and bagged an awesome goal to open his account for the morning. Beaming with confidence, the Warriors cranked into a higher gear which saw Elliot Klein and Nambia continue their outstanding high work rates in pushing dangerous forward presses which resulted in Hahndorf’s defenders pinned down on very much on their back feet. Aslanidis was clean in front of goal again and picked up his second goal within 3 minutes of his first. Constable, unlucky to score numerous times in both halves continued to trouble the Hanhdorf goal keeper with his perilous endeavours to hit the back of the net. The Warriors team were elated when Constable chalked up their 3rd and final goal for the Warriors with 5 minutes left to play. However, the impressive Hanndorf refused the throw in the towel and a long ball split the Warriors defence which resulted in them registering their first goal for the day. Finn Randell played another outstanding game at Right Back and ensured that any further attempts were thwarted before a nervy Vassos needed to be called into action again. With the Warriors backline under siege, Klein sensed that reinforcements were required to steady the stem of the relentless attacks from the Hanhdorf strikers. Klein’s sweeping role that he had played throughout the morning underpinned the Warrior’s defence an ensured that no more late goals were leaked.  A thrilling match concluded with the final score Woodside 3, Hahndorf 1.
