MATCH REPORT | U10 Mixed Round 14
FC Summit White vs Hahndorf
27/07/24 11am Anembo Park
The sun was shining but parents weren’t fooled, freezing temperatures and a muddy pitch greeted us at Anembo Park! The boys were pumped to welcome our newest recruit Teddy, our NZ import, for his debut match!
The game started strong, FC Summit exhibited some great footwork and attempts at goals however Michael Griggs stood firm as keeper putting his body on the line stopping the ball. He was supported by an incredible defence duo of Harris Parkyn and Harry Ramsey, who thwarted their attempts at gaining an advantage. Parkyn particularly showed his ability the entire game gaining the ball and bringing it to our impressive attacking line up. Eric Jager and Felix Breitweg supported in midfield, often gaining the ball around some particularly talented opponents. Kealan Atkinson supported from the wing, showing powerful defending taking a particularly intense ball to the thigh and managing to gain the ball, sending it to the strikers throughout the half. Teddy Brown had an impressive first game, showing he was eager to get involved and multiple times displaying a powerful long kick driving the ball to Hahndorf’s advantage. Ollie Drake came on from subs strong, and proved an involved and attentive support to our defenders throughout the game along with Valentino Adami, who held strong in midfield supporting and encouraging his team mates. Edward Hung and Brooklyn Karamanov were in attack, gaining the ball and attempting to get past FC Summits defenders, they showed skill and speed! They, along with Breitweg had some amazing shots that just missed! However a moment of brilliance saw an epic play executed, Parkyn’s impressive skill gained the ball of a defender twice his size, driving the ball along the pitch, passing to a ready Hung who expertly weaved between players to the half way line sending it to Karamanov who drove towards goals gaining speed in front of defenders and sending the ball up the bottom left corner of goals. The team celebrated in unison with their parents!
Half time saw coach Nic encourage the boys to hold their positions, keep driving the ball forward and show good communication.
The second half saw a similar player set up. Drake showed determination defending the ball along with Jager and Brown, pushing the ball back to our midfield. Parkyn again took the ball and sped it to our attackers the entire half leaving everything he had on the pitch. First drama of the half was a pitch invader, an opposition player's younger sibling breached the line causing a commotion on the sideline. Some unfortunate hand balls saw the opposition gain advantage scoring from back to back penalties given to their players. The boys showed fantastic sportsmanship amongst the confusion and continued to play strong.
Hung and Karamanov used their communication to attempt to score but were unsuccessful despite their drive - there were corners, headers and kicks that left supporters cheering loudly!
Adami, Breitwag, Ramsey and Atkinson held strong in middle and centre back successfully getting the ball out of the scrum, communicating well to each other and not being afraid of the growing muddy ditch in the middle! Brown and Jager kept up the defence pressure, both utilising their massive kicking ability to drive the ball out of the opposition's goals. Griggs was a superstar, stopping the majority of goal attempts at one point leaping in the air to stop a ball in the top left pocket that came out of nowhere from halfway.
Overall, as a team our U10’s showed their development, love of the game and how much they’ve learnt this season!
