Match report

Fresh off three wins-in-a-row the confident Woodside Gold team met Summit White at Anembo Park in cold but fine conditions. Summit must be congratulated for their effort in setting up the grounds with sign-written gazebos, a sizzling barbecue and even arranging a coffee van to be on site. The two Summit teams have been excellent this season with their smattering of State League players so the Gold team knew it was going to be a tough outing.

The first half began with Summit attacking hard but Gold's defence was holding firm with Jack Hogan, Charlie Dvorak and Logan Pielago clearing the ball. In the midfield Ashley Hendrie and Stefan Sims were moving the ball forward while Mason Payne was getting plenty of kicks, often against bigger opponents. Gold had matched the Summit stars but with a few minutes left in the half, Summit scored.

As the second half began Gold changed strategy to try and pull even. The two Tobys were sent as strikers and the equaliser nearly came when Toby Smith smashed a strike into the upright but it rebounded back into play. Unfortunately this push forward depleted Gold's defence and despite the defiance from Zaion Lorifice, Summit's bigger, more experienced players began to take control of the game. Summit netted twice late in the half for a hard fought victory. Gold should be proud of their effort. The scoreline probably didn't do justice for Gold who matched Summit for much of the match.
