Match report

The u8s Round 9 match between Hahndorf and Mt Barker United Red was set to be a tough battle in soggy conditions.

On a wintery wet day Hahndorf looked the brightest team from the first whistle, dominating much of the early possession. They were soon to be rewarded by a mazy run by Soren Mickan who’s shot found the back of the net to put Hahndorf on the scoreboard.

Mt Barker pressed hard for an equaliser but were frustrated by a strong defensive line of Joshua Blain and Violet Mitchell. Owen Hoyle was kept busy as Hahndorf's goal keeper for the first half.

Hahndorf soaked up the pressure and played an excellent counter attacking game led by Levi Neumann and Mickan who was denied a goal by a last-minute tackle.

Hahndorf’s midfield frustrated Mt Barkers attack with Oliver Knight showing great courage and determination. The game began to open up with deteriorating conditions. Hahndorf looked dangerous on the counter attack with Rosie Semple finding space in midfield.

In the second half Mt Barker started strong with Carter Hartley matching Mt Barker's efforts with robust challenges and clearances. Neumann was able to get control of the ball and release the attaching pressure so his teammates could have a much-needed breather.

However, Mt Barker finally found a way through and managed to take the lead. The midfield challenges came thick and fast and Ali Semple was awarded a free kick following a late challenge.

Against the run of play Mt Barker managed to snag another late goal. The Magpies can be proud of their defensive bravery and willingness not to give up in terrible conditions.
