Match report

Warriors travelled to Ashton to play against Rangers for the final game of the U12 2020 season. Warriors knew it was an important game to win to finish the season undefeated and claim number 1 spot of the ladder. They also knew it was going to be a tough game to win. As the first whistle blew both teams went in with determination. Warriors claimed possession of the ball quickly and managed to get first shot at goal but unfortunately it went high. Rangers were there to play, and every time Warriors got possession of the ball, they were all over them. Warriors players Mack Olsson, Will Limbert and Max Davis were working hard in the middle to hold the ball in Warriors forward. Rangers managed to slip through and with their first shot at goal managed to score putting them on the scoreboard first. Warriors continued to push forward and had a few attempts at goal but narrowly missing the mark. Warriors defence players Morgan Burroughes and Oliver Boerth worked tirelessly and attacked the ball to turn control back over and get it to the Warriors strikers. Both teams seemed evenly matched and as determined as each other to be victors of this match. Warriors continued to fight for the ball and it eventually paid off when Domenico Silvestri managed to score Warriors first goal only 3 minutes before the half time whistle leaving it all tied up with 1 goal each at half time break. After a quick drink, some sweets and a chat from the coaches, Warriors were ready to get out there and claim the number 1 spot. Warriors Eddie Moylan and James Lunnon were quick to cover Rangers players and with their speed managed to keep putting the ball back into Warriors control. Ryan Sutton used his skill to move the ball down the wing and pass of to team mate Sidney Cotton who then scored the first goal in the second half and put Warriors in front. Rangers weren’t ready to give up though and after a couple attempts at goal that were expertly stopped by Warriors goalie Barnaby Bevan, Rangers managed to slip one through leaving scores tied up again. Warriors then realised time was running out and that’s when they came alive. Poppy Thomas was quick on her feet and every single time her passes hit their mark. Silvestri had a penalty shot at goal and sank it into the net with ease and that’s when the crowd on the sideline went nuts. When Warriors Jesse Mewett  had the ball in his sights he continued to tackle until he won the ball and was able to pass it off and as the ball got close to goal and player of the day, Sidney Cotton came out of nowhere and got his head to ball and scored warriors 4th goal. By this time the whole of the Warriors crowd were on their feet cheering them on and as time was ticking on Warriors took advantage of having control of the ball and Silvestri kicked a goal just seconds before the final whistle. Warriors players and supporters erupted and celebrated the win. Warriors were victors and kept their status as undefeated for the 2020 season with final score being Warriors 5 Rangers 2. Must give credit to Rangers though for a well-played match.
