Match report

It was a fresh but sunny day in Hahndorf today as the under 9s Girls team prepared for their first game together and the first soccer game ever for many of the players in the team. The atmosphere was one of excitement and nerves as the whistle blew.

Mt Barker red started strong with a confident forward line making our defenders work hard. Anu Duggin and Amelie Rymer showed that they had what it took to keep the ball out of the goal, with Kaylee Sheremetjev stopping multiple shots at goal.

Eden Stell moved well through midfield after a great clearing kick by A. Rymer to turn the play around. Mt Barker continued to push forwards, securing the first goal despite excellent defensive work by Charlotte Rymer and Stell.

A. Rymer ran hard to support her teammates, while Holly Pippos put her body on the line to take possession of the ball.

Mt Barker continued to score, but Hahndorf were not going to give up. Scout Ramsey and Sheremetjev made a run up the field but were stopped before they made it to goal and half time was called.

The second half saw Ramsey in goal with glue on her gloves. Hahndorf found their rhythm with the ball spending more time in their attacking half.

Ruby Baryczka came on in midfield showing great promise but took a hard hit by the ball and needed to go off shortly afterwards.

Ramsey made some excellent saves and was well supported in defence by Duggin, A. Rymer, C. Rymer, Pippos and Willow Duggan, who turned the ball around again and again. But Mt Barker worked tirelessly and continued to score.

The game ended with huge smiles all round. What a wonderful start to the season.
