Perfect playing conditions greeted players and spectators as Hahndorf Under 13’s took to the pitch for an away match against Murray Bridge.
The home side had the first kick, getting the game underway. Hahndorf’s Louis Moran took the opposition by surprise with an early intercept, controlling the ball and tracking it towards the Hahndorf goals. Murray Bridge’s defence were quick to respond, chasing down the ball and soon taking back control. The ball made it into the home team's forward half, keeping the Hahndorf defence of Jack Gaskin, Caleb Earley and Harry Wood busy. Despite consistent pressure from the defence, Murray Bridge were able to find the back to the net, signalling the first goal for the match.
Not deterred, Hahndorf soon had the ball in their possession. Wood took control, running up the line then launching a kick from just inside the Hahndorf’s forward half. The ball tracked towards the goal, with Hahndorf’s Samuel Griffiths guiding it into the net, securing the away team's first goal. Griffiths proved his kicking accuracy soon after, securing a second goal for Hahndorf.
Strong mid-field pressure from Sonjae Cook and Flynn Menzies continued in the first half, with plenty of great intercepts providing opportunities for Thomas Gould and Moran up forward. With both teams showing immense determination, the first half ended at 2-all.
A swap in the Hahndorf’s goalie for the second half saw Cohen Whinfield take up position in the forward line, joined by Karina Franklin and Noah Duggan. Franklin and Duggan positioned themselves well to run through the tight Murray Bridge defence, with Whinfield showing skill by assisting Gould who scored the visiting teams third goal. Whinfield soon followed this up with a goal of his own. Moran continued to show his strengths, with excellent running play up the line to secure another goal for Hahndorf. Despite the ball spending time in Hahndorf’s forward half, the visiting sides defence were kept busy with Gaskin deflecting a shot and Earley chasing down the ball to ensure a win for Hahndorf, with a final score of 5-2.
A well-played game with a great show of effort by both teams.
