Match report

After the two early games at Woodside on July 8 were called off at half-time due to the weather, the 10am match against Murray Bridge looked in jeopardy.

But as the Bridge players had travelled a good distance it was decided to start the game. From the kick-off the tall Murray Bridge players held sway and Gold were struggling to get the ball back into their half. Diminutive Toby Smith in goal saved some solidly-hit shots while Jack Hogan, Ashley Hendrie and the ever-improving Mason Payne began interupting Bridge's flow into attack. Suddenly Jo Smith took off with a withering run down the left and calmly netted the ball past the keeper.

The Gold team lifted and within minutes Jo duplicated what he had done minutes before. The play was now mostly in Gold's attacking half and Logan Pielago dodged three Bridge players and only needed to trickle the ball past the keeper when his final strike got stuck in the mud. Soon after the ball fell for Toby Riechmann and he duly obliged making it 3-0 at the break. 

The second half started as the first with the ball whizzing up and down the pitch but no team gaining an advantage. The two Tobys had switched roles and while Toby Riechmann saved some good attempts on goal, Toby Smith took off from the half-way line dribbling past opposition players before slamming the ball into the net.

Just as the ref blew time the heavens opened and everyone ran for cover but at least the match was completed and it was a well deserved result for the Gold team.
