Hahndorf hosted Woodside today at home in an 8-8 match. Kick of sent the ball Hahndorf’s end where it bounced around between Lucca Falvo-Lopez, Sol Cootes, Connor Ozolins and Jhett Frost. Woodside’s defence prevented any clear shots on goal. Ozolins lifted the ball to try clear the defence line and a beautiful header was made by Cootes. Frost soon fed the ball to Falvo-Lopez for Hahndorf’s first shot on goal but the opposition goalie’s hands were there. Defenders Simran Singh, Caleb Earley and Cohen Whinfield prevented Woodside from moving the ball much past half way. Ashon Broadbent-Shaw with fresh legs caught a Woodside rebound and put one through the goalies legs. Woodside were hungry now and ventured down towards their goal with ferocity. One attempt went wide, the next saved by Whinfield and the final of the half by a strong Hahndorf defence team.

The second half saw an early attempt by Woodside keeping goalie Lachlan Gardner on his toes. Zack Perkins, fresh out of goals centred a pass to Broadbent-Shaw for another goal attempt. A massive kick by Woodside’s goalie returned the ball to play in the centre before Perkins crossed the ball to Frost for another Shot at the Woodside goalie. Third time lucky and Broadbent-Shaw crosses to Perkins who found the back of the net. Play again returned to Hahndorf’s end with Singh taking a big cross that ended up again in the goalies gloves. A surprise attack by Woodside saw goalie Garner protect the net perfectly and the ball returned to Hahndorf’s end with Broadbent-Shaw’s big kick on goal over ruled by the umpire. In the dying minutes of the game the goalie kick was turned over at the halfway line by Broadbent-Shaw who ran on goals and slotted the final goal of the match. Well done to the Hahndorf boys for a hard fought game.
