Match report

The game kicked off with the sun shining and kids all eager and moving the ball swiftly. Hahndorf were quick to take shots on goal firstly, by Alice Cannavo and by Thomas Gould were defended by the strong Nairne keeper. Defending was strong from Hahndorf, with great play by Ashon Broadbent and Pearl Beesley when the ball did threaten to move down to the opposition end. When play did break through, our keeper Oliver Ramsey was steely in facing the shots and not letting them through.

Hahndorf’s first goal also started with the defence – in Eli Parkin as he intercepted, then a through pass to Gould – who made a chip shot through for the first goal.

Jack Gaskin was relentless in pushing the ball forward – taking a shots that were well defended and did not convert.  Nairne really stepped up at this stage and play was very equal. Hahndorf did give away a free kick down the Nairne end, allowing Nairne a free shot on goals, that again Ramsey was able to cut off.

Play was quick to move away from Nairne’s end, a couple of sharp passes from Rowan Gilroy and Mason Sickerdick resulted in the ball being set up for Lachlan Gardner to get a shot on goal, sadly this one did not convert, right on half time.

Second half saw shot on goals by Ramsey – now out of goalie, and Broadbent that unfortunately did not push through.  Gardner – ever persistent, did succeed then with a strong kick and goal.

Nairne capitalised when the ball broke through, sneaking one through.  The team sharpened up with this conceded goal, Broadbent really pushing hard, Parkin dominating and defending the backline, and Rowan Gilroy and Hugo Curtis teaming up in the mids to control play and push down to Hahndorf.   Gardener made a great streaming play through the middle and converted another goal.  Nairne responded quickly with another goal of their own…. Pressure really on now to see who could break through for another one. Broadbent again stepped up the defending, to then push a through pass to Pearl Beesley who passed a great shot through to Curtis who shot the last goal for Hahndorf.
