Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Bridgewater Soccer Club Blue

This chilly Saturday morning, the Hahndorf Under 7’s put on a solid effort for their first home game of the season against Bridgewater White at Rob Kilpatrick Park. Hahndorf’s game captain – William Moran – represented Hahndorf in the coin toss in front of a large home crowd of approximately 70 excited parents, siblings, family, and friends.

With both sides having many players, the teams decided to modify the game to 9v9 to give players more time on-field, a decision which was well-received by all! Hahndorf began the game with Chloe Pippos, Hamish Holmes, Ryan Glynn, Patrick Griggs, Avery Buchanan, Finn Bond, Asa Bartsch, Victor Bartsch, and Alfie McConville in goal (GK). McConville stopped a few early tries for goal by Bridgewater White, returning the ball to the Hahndorf defensive line. This allowed the Hahndorf offense to support Holmes in making several tries at goal, which unfortunately fell slightly short of the mark.

Players were substituted at the 10-minute mark, with Moran and Axel Pym bringing a renewed energy to the Hahndorf side, and a further few (sadly unsuccessful) tries at goal. Hahndorf returned from half-time looking rejuvenated and working well together as a team. Bridgewater White matched Hahndorf’s enthusiasm in both offense and defense, making this one a thrilling game to watch.

The Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank the Bridgewater White team and officials for an exciting game.

U8 - Round 2- 6/5/2023

Woodside Warriors Red Vs Strathalbyn

Woodside – 9:00am

Saturday marked our first home game of the season.  With an impressive crowd on the sidelines ready to support our young champions, all the players were eager to start the game and to show the opposition just how much we enjoy playing on our home turf.

This week, we elected to play a 9-a-side contest as both teams had large (and very energetic squads) raring to get a run.  Despite having a few extra players on the field, we found the space, scored early and nothing could stop us.  Eddie, Nathaniel, Mitchell and Owen, who made up our defence, stood tall and kept their positions well. They rarely allowed the ball to reach our defensive half.  Jesse and Scott's first games of the year were all quality and their inclusion in the team improved our play all over the field.

In the second half, the team unleashed a flurry of shots that resulted in goals from Scott, Mitchell, Archer and Daniel.  Our two little rockets, Freddie and Luca, displayed some impressive skills as they weaved through the midfield, creating multiple opportunities for the team.

The strength of the defence in our midfield resulted in another quiet game for those championing our goalie position this week, however both Luca (in the first half) and Jesse (in the second) held focus well and gave the opposition no chance to score.

Overall, confidence and skills remain at a high level and the entire squad has a great sense of teamwork, which is so great to see.  The boys are hard at work learning how to read each other’s play and how they can best support the team moving forward and we are already seeing improvements beyond week 1.  Boys, keep up the good work!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

Under threatening skies, Warriors U8 Blue fronted up in round two to host Mt Barker U8 Red. The boys had warmed up well and took to the field with a glint in their eyes. Only seconds after the starting whistle, the Blue Warriors streamed forward and Patrick deftly lobbed a right-foot strike past the Barker keeper and into the back of the net.

Far from intimidated, the Barker Reds surged into attack but their foray was soon intercepted by Josiah in defence who turned the ball around and drove it forward again for the Blues. Running in numbers, passing frequently and confidently the Warriors, blue scored prolifically for the rest of the first half. Sharing the spoils, there was a total of four goal-scorers before the break with Odin, Eddie and Leon joining Patrick on the ledger. Leon and Odin worked well together in defence and calling and talking was a feature of the Warriors' game today.

The action continued immediately after the break with Billie helping himself to a quick-fire goal off a deft pass from Freddie in the midfield. Having spent a quiet first half minding the home goal, Billy was a ball-magnet in the second period finishing with a stunning hat-trick. Barker continued to fight back with several pushes into our half but Josiah in particular showed dogged defiance, running back hard and using the boundary-lines well to return the Warriors goalward. Fred, Eddie and Ethan were also pivotal in the midfield setting up multiple offensive plays. Hungry to join the scorers, they lurked menacingly at the top of the square late in the game. Barker's keeper worked hard in the second half, turning back more strikes than passed him while Patrick sternly defended the home goal until the final whistle.

After last week's drizzly start and low-numbers scratch-match, the Warriors are already coming together as a tight unit, showing a promising level of teamwork.. Coach Troy was pleased with the standard set by the boys and made specific comment about throw-in drills paying off well on game-day. Special thanks to first-time whistle-blower Andy!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs F.C Summit

Hahndorf Soccer Club's Under 8s took on FC Summit in their second match as a team and showed incredible grit and determination in an exciting 2nd half comeback. Captain for the day, Brooklyn Karamanov, rallied the team before kick-off, encouraging them to work together and call out each other's names when passing the ball.

In the first half, Eric Jager was the goalkeeper, with defenders Will Neelawala and Brooklyn Karamanov putting in solid performances. Midfielders Art Neville, Charlie Kilpatrick, and Zeek Neelawala battled hard in the midfield, while attackers Carter Karamanov and Keenlan Atkinson made a number of promising runs forward.

The game was tight in the first half, with play often congested in midfield. Art and Charlie put their bodies on the line with some strong tackles and Eric made some excellent saves at the other end of the field to keep FC Summit at bay. Hahndorf were at their best when looking to exploit the space on the wings and at half time the team talked about spreading out to make it easier to find a team-mate with a pass.

In the second half, Carter swapped for Eric in goalkeeping duties. FC Summit began to gain the upper hand and found the back of the net twice with two unstoppable strikes from the edge of the box. The pressure continued to mount, and Carter had to make a number of excellent saves to keep Hahndorf in the game.

But Hahndorf never gave up and the team continued to battle hard. Zeek's well-placed pass set Brooklyn free from the chasing pack and he cut inside to bury his shot past the diving goalkeeper, keeping the Magpies in touch. The goal was just the spark Hahndorf needed to kick it up a notch. With renewed energy and determination the Magpies went on the attack and minutes later Keelan tore down the right wing, steadied himself, and smashed home the equalizer to the delight of the home crowd.

The team had shown incredible resilience and character to come back from two goals down against a skilful and well-organized FC Summit team. Brooklyn, who had captained the team on the day set the tone for the second half with his goal and Keelan's equalizer showed that the team has the ability to fight back against adversity.

All the players put in a great effort with Eric, Will, Brooklyn, Art, Charlie, Zeek, Carter, and Keenlan all contributing. Overall, it was a thrilling match, and the Under 8s should be proud of their performance and the heart they showed on the pitch.

U9

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

The second game of the season kicked off with 8 a side, hungry to get into the action, with  Adam Masters taking the centre ball straight from the whistle up to take a shot at goal. This is predominantly how the first half of the game was played, with Woodside making a solid effort in attack. The first half score was 1-0 with a cracker shot by made by Adam.

The second half saw Mt Barker make some more ground towards goal, but no attempts made it past Will Highson who performed exceptionally well as Goalie.

Team Captain Hamish was a star defender in both halves, really rushing forward for the tackle and covering enromous ground on the extended pitch.

Both Liam Harding and Gage Erdmann had some great shots at goal, both assisted by excellent passes from the rest of the team.

First time match from William Ribbins not shy to make very decent attempts at both defence and attack positons.

Another great win for the blues!

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Bridgewater Soccer Club Blue

The dark clouds threatening to rain were no dampener on the spirit of the under 9 boys as they arrived at the synthetic turf of the Summit for their clash with Bridgewater.

Bridgewater had the best of it early, putting pressure on Hahndorf’s keeper Leo Davies, who was well and truly up to the task, stopping 4 searing shots sent his way. Hahndorf fought back with Charlie Roeszler, Harris Parkyn and Miles Hennessy combining together well in the middle move the ball and start probing the Bridgewater backline.

Despite this improved movement in the middle, play still seemed to be predominantly in the Hahndorf defensive half, giving Hamish Glynn plenty of opportunity to flex his defensive muscle. Notwithstanding Hahndorf’s valiant defence, the lines were eventually breached with Bridgewater scoring their first goal of the game. This was only after several forays forward being blocked by Angus Clifton and Saxon Sulskis.

Hahndorf fought back strongly after this set back with a crisp series of passes between Parkyn, Michael Griggs and Hennessy, which resulted in Hennessy sliding one past Bridgewater’s keeper for Hahndorf’s first of the season!

Hahndorf’s second half was highlighted by Grigg’s floating in his first goal of the season and a delightful passage of play involving Griggs putting a ball through to Parkyn, who on spotting Hennessy near the top of the box, crossed it to him for another Hahndorf goal. The defence of Clifton, Glynn and Sulskis in goals continued to frustrate Bridgewater’s efforts to add to their tally during the second half.

The boys will look to build on this result when they take on Murray Bridge at home next week!

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

Hahndorf U9G White team put on a strong effort against the Nairne U9 team with Hahndorf playing well and defending against multiple goal attempts from the opposing team. Anu Duggin was kept busy in both the first half as Goalkeeper and also the second half, playing strongly in both offence and defence.  Duggin saved several goals within the first half with the Hahndorf playing in their own end with occasional attacks on the opposing team lead by Amelia Ramsey and Eden Stell. During the second half Hahndorf continued to contest strongly in continued defensive play lead by Duggin, Vesna Barska and Willow Duggan. Holly Pippos supported the defensive play and was continually in the middle of the action. Saskia Merry in goal was under a lot of pressure in the second half with respites provided by Scout Ramsey and Charlotte Rymer who provided three further attacks on goal but narrowly missed.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club

Gold dominated the first half of the game in bright sunshine at Ashton. Our midfield halted many Rangers moves forward and in goal Logan Pielago grabbed anything that came his way. Jack Hogan was running non-stop while captain Ashley Hendrie and Toby Smith continually pushed the ball forward. Charlie Dvorak challenged an opposition player near the box and the ball spilled to his teammate. Persisting Charlie challenged him too, won the ball and slotted a beautiful strike into the back of the net. Within minutes Jo Smith dodged a few players and hit a hard strike past the keeper.

Just like the first week, Rangers emerged for the second half with a more fighting spirit and their top player started to weild his influence, Stefan Sims and Zaion Lorefice were finding themselves more in defence than attack as their top player scored once and then again. Gold was having difficulty clearing the ball  and because most players were being drawn into the defensive lines we were unable to create many chances for ourselves.

Toby Riemann was saving plenty in goals but their top player was just too good  and powerfully bagged his third late in the match.

For a new team with many new players, it is fantastic that Gold has scored 3 goals from the first 2 matches and led at half time in both. As they learn each others' name, pass more accurately and gain playing experience, a win may well be within reach.

U10

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

Round 2 saw a step up in confidence from all players. It was a tug of war against Mount Barker Red. We knew they had a strong side and were good at using the ball. However, we were able to move the ball from the back of the pitch by stringing passes together and using our team mates to take it up the line. With great team work and some fabulous BIG kicks, we managed to win the game by 1 point. Our Goalies worked hard saving several balls which was an excellent effort. The weather turned very cold and very wet within minutes, and even though the ground got soggy and so did all the players and team supporters, they didn't give up.

U11

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

Woodside Red U11's were really looking forward to this game after having a bye for round 1, although they did have a great 5 on 5 scratch match to ease their way into the season.

The sun was out but a few ominious clouds loomed above. Ready to put to the test the past months training Woodside Red got off to a great start sharing the ball around. With in a couple of minuntes Logan scored with a little fumble from the Mt Barker Goalie after a peppering of shots. From there both teams showed great skills with some solid strikes being taken and well defended from Salvatore Woodside's goal keeper. Woodside had a solid defence with first gamer Harley stepping up to the plate and attacking the ball like a warrior!! At half time scores were even. As the players were setting up for the second half the rain started, with in a few minutes the game was called up and everyone went running for cover. A dissapointing end to what promised to be a great tight match based on the fisrt halfs play.

U13

Hahndorf Soccer Club (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club (4)

The break in the rain and hail at Bradwood Park Sporting Grounds saw the Hahndorf Under 13’s team demonstrate determination and teamwork despite a win by the home team, Stirling Districts, 0 – 4.

The first half saw defenders Jack Gaskin, Christopher Haynes, Harry Wood and Jacob Gerber keeping pressure on their opponents and together and along with Caleb Earley, worked hard to intercept the ball with some big kicks sending the ball back down the field. Emlyn Gilroy and Sonjae Cook demonstrated awareness of their teammates with confident and intentional kicks allowing Louis Moran to take two shots at goal. Eli Parkyn ran the ball down the line on several occasions and was consistently working hard through the centre of the field. Jackson Bidgood displayed great coordination and commitment, saving a number of attempted goals by the opposition. Before half-time the team had settled into their positions keeping pressure on their opponents with no score from either team.

An early goal to Stirling Districts in the second half didn’t stop Cohen Whitfield to take control of the ball through the centre and Ashon Broadbent-Shaw displayed skilful footwork with a side pass to his teammate who was able to take a shot at goal. Rowan Gilroy also used his teammates with some excellent passing during the second half. Despite another three goals from the opposition, the team demonstrated commitment with Haynes heading to deflect a throw-in and Lawson Shotton withstanding the pressure when taking a penalty shot in front of goals.

The Hahndorf Under 13’s team put in a solid effort and congratulate Stirling Districts team for their 4-goal win over Hahndorf.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (6)

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White (6)

The wide and flawless expanses of the Summit pitch played host to Stirling Districts U15 White and Woodside Warriors for their Round Two row. While Woodside were reeling off the back of a comprehensive defeat last week, Stirling were flying high, having kicked 12 goals in a one-sided clash. But with combinations forming in their newly-assembled crew, Woodside were confident of putting in a good showing and exhibiting another display of Warrior Spirit.

From the outset Stirling enjoyed a territorial advantage, as was to be expected with their experience and size advantage. But despite repeated attacks, they just could not penetrate Woodside’s 18 yard box – the Red and Blue back-four were too dogged as they protected their area with fight, vigour and vim. But the Stirling forwards are full of class, with their skill complimented by football smarts. Finding no way through the Red-and-Blue wall, they decided to go over it. On the eight-minute mark their striker elegantly beat the keeper with a well-timed chip that scraped the bottom of the crossbar and put Stirling in the lead. As play went on, Woodside threatened to break out at any moment, creating several through-balls that were denied only by the speed of the blue-and-white-clad backs. Stirling’s control over the game continued for the remainder of the first half, but try as they might, they still couldn’t penetrate the box. Through teamwork, effort and a willingness to cover one-another, Woodside forced their opponents to take all their shots from well outside. Most sailed high or wide, but another two chips found the mark, the first after 26 minutes and the second coming on the 39-minute mark as heavy legs failed the Woodside chargers.

The scoreline betrayed the tightness of the first half. Sure, Stirling looked the stronger side, but their goals had come from deft chips that, although extremely well executed, may not prove effective in coming years as they face taller and taller goalkeepers. And if Woodside felt intimidated by their opponents, they had a funny way of showing it. Instead of going into their shells, they visibly increased their intensity in the second half, wrestling the ball into their possession time and again, sending it forward and getting creative up the pitch, where they desperately sought the back of their Stirling’s onion bag. While their attack had been very direct in the first, in the second half they were working as a collective, passing the ball with class to create a number of genuine scoring opportunities. Again, the pace of Stirling’s inside backs was noteworthy and instrumental in denying a Woodside goal. And although they were enjoying a solid lead, their desperation to protect their nest was admirable. Stirling managed a further 3 goals in the second half to record another solid victory, but with Woodside only conceding a single goal from inside 18 yards, there was much to like about the Red-and-Blue and we look forward to watching their progress throughout the season.

Compliments to both sides for how they presented themselves. There was plenty of tough, uncompromising football, and more than the odd clash of bodies, but none drifted too-far from the decrees of the game and all were well and truly in keeping the spirit of football. You’ve gotta love this game!

Hahndorf Soccer Club (2) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (2)

U15 Hahndorf v Mount Barker

The scene was peaceful at the Summit pitch prior to the start of the game with the sunlight
breaking through the clouds as the supporters in the stands and the cows on the hillside
looked on. As the whistle blew the opposition took to the attack quickly and Hahndorf
defence were pushed to respond with Luciann Tinsley-Smith and Angus Mifsud working well
together to keep the ball away from the goal square. Hayden Lien and Harrison Gould made
solid passes to each other as they moved the ball up the pitch, applying the pressure to
Mount Barker. The teams seemed evenly matched, and Mount Barker also kept the
pressure on, pushing Pepe Zahra in goals to prevent a few early goal attempts. Despite P
Zahra’s efforts, Mount Barker were soon successful in kicking the first goal of the game.
This seemed to light a fire under Cooper Liddle, Jett Zahra and Levi Beesley who put in great
efforts to equalise the score. Despite the intensity, their attempts were denied by the
opposition goalkeeper who displayed excellent skills in defence. Hahndorf continued to be
pressured with Mifsud, Luca Cannavo and Patrick Hinze working in unison to assist P Zahra
in preventing further goal success by the opposition. Jacob Gardner, Daniel Peters and
Oliver Sarapini-Palombo put in substantial efforts in the midfield to assist with moving the
ball up the pitch and these endeavours were later rewarded with a successful goal by Gould.
The mood on the pitch shifted as the dark grey clouds moved overhead and drizzling rain
began to descend on the field. The teams played on as the drizzle became a downpour and
visibility became challenging. Both teams seemed grateful when the half time whistle
sounded allowing for a break by the shelters.
J Zahra took over in goals for the second half and was quickly under attack from Mount
Barker forward players. After a few successful saves, the opposition managed to slip a goal
past him. As the sun began to break through the clouds and the rain abated, both teams
displayed solid efforts in applying high pressure to their opponents. Cannavo, Isaac Killey
and Sarapini-Palombo working hard at clearing the ball and moving it back down the pitch
to assist their teammates with further goal attempts. Gould successfully equalized the game
again and the energy on the pitch remained high. While each team were afforded several
opportunities to increase the score, both goalkeepers displayed valiant efforts in thwarting
all attempts. Tinsley-Smith and Mifsud continued to work collaboratively in defence, with
Gould, Liddle and Lien applying regular pressure on the opposition in the forward lines.
Peters and Hinze provided solid assists in clearing the ball away from the opposition and
keeping the game moving with intensity for the spectators. While the pressure remained
high, the game ended on a 2-2 draw with both teams displaying evidence of great
teamwork. It’s shaping up to be a challenging season for the U15’s.

U17

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (6*) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc (0)

Heading out on Saturday morning the sun shining and U17 Blue made their way out to the pitch to play against the Strath U17's. For this week some players from Woodside's U17 Red team had offered to help out the Strath squad as they still try to secure numbers for the team. Isn't that what Hills Football is all about - pitching in when needed to have a great game!

Woodside controlled the play for a large part of the game - passing well and moving the ball around and finishing a number of good goals.

Credit to Strath's U13's and U17G who stepped in to help the team out.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (5) vs Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (4)

Woodside U17 Red knew they were up for a tough match before they even set foot on the pitch at Springbank Secondary College to play Blackwood today. Woodside were up for the challenge though. It was a fast paced game from the very first whistle. Woodside defence were tight and did their best to stop Blackwood getting the ball anywhere near their goals for the first few minutes. Woodside attacked the ball well and moved the ball down the pitch with precision to get on the scoreboard first. Blackwood were not going to go down easily though and followed up with their first goal a few minutes later. Both teams were well matched up and play was up and down the field consistently with goalies on both sides working tirelessly. Blackwood then scored again and Woodside wasn’t going to let them stay ahead and followed with another goal of their own. Both teams were hungry for a win and went into half time with scores even at 3 apiece. Second half was well played by both teams and spectators were on the edge of their seats watching a game with lots of skill on display. Blackwood scored the first goal in the second half and then it took a while for Woodside to even the score again with a goal of their own. It wasn’t good enough for Woodside to have an even score so they stepped it up again and pushed hard. It payed off with Woodside kicking the last goal of the game which put them in the lead by 1 goal. Woodside then held their lead and won the match by 1. Was a great game to watch and even though Woodside were up against it from the start they played a brilliant game and came out with the win.

SDFC 4 v Mount Barker 1

Goal Scorers:
SDFC - F Huang, R Tully, L Preece, J Weits.
MBUSC I Brown.

A wintery afternoon at Woodside with everything from sunshine to rain, Stirling made a strong start with only 10 players on the pitch. Relative newcomer Feiya Huang scored her first ever goal at the 7 minute mark with a style that denied her inexperience on the pitch. A mere 10 minutes later and Stirling conceded their only goal of the match. Moments later Stirling’s eleventh player took to the pitch. Zora Huang made some skillful saves in goals. Striker Zoe York took a corner at the 25 minute mark which was promptly converted to an assist as Ruby Tully scored Stirling’s second goal of the match. Striker Aubrey Adams' sound positioning provided her teammates with excellent passing options. Jess Verryt and Ev Wilson were strong in defence, putting in some heroic efforts to shut down the opposition.

Z York made the switch to goals and was put through her paces, making some great saves. Hannah Noonan and Polly Harrison worked hard through the midfield with impressive grit and humour. Layla Preece’s determined efforts paid off when she scored a goal. Izzy Bailes continued to show her willingness and versatility moving from defence up the pitch as needed. Nora Bijlsma was solid in defence throughout the match, taking the majority of throw-ins. Stirling’s newcomer Jasmijn Weits scored her first goal in the final 15 minutes after several earlier attempts had been thwarted. In an unusual move, there was a goalie substitution and J Verryt took on the challenge with typical tenacity. Great passing on the pitch with increasing accuracy and strength. Another great day on the pitch for Stirling’s U17G!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Rams (3) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc (1)

Round 2  Woodside Rams VS Strathalbyn Strikers

It was a cold Saturday afternoon with storm clouds above tempting to drop a ton of rain,

We were three girls down this week, with one recovering from a goal saving mild concushion , a dislocated knee cap , and a strained ankle . a big thankyou to our two fill ins whom really helped with our rotations .

The Game began with the Woodside Rams heading north with the wind on our backs as the cold southerly wind pushed the ball hopefully into our favour.

The first half was looking good with most of the play in Woodside Rams attacking end . this was thanks to the whole team working together to push the ball forward and put in the first effort, the second effort and the third effort.

2 goals were scored early in the half and it was looking like we were in a place to score more, but Strath was not going down without a fight,  the half was almost over and a goal was scored from a metre from the goal line, but wait it was over ruled as the linesman had his hand in the air it was an off side play, we had had a lucky escape. Strath pressed again, but this time it flew over the top, and the ended up keeping us to the two goals all the way to the half time break.

A change of ends and now with the wind in our face the play had changed its tune. Strath was now holding the ball in our defensive end and goal attempt after goal attempt was being had  finally strath had earned a corner ball and they capitalized on this with a  quick kick in and a shot on goal , scored.

Tension was high now with only a goal separating the two teams, Strath continued to press and so was Woodside Rams  the play was  going down both ends , another off side goal .  Still only a goal separating.

It had come down to 5 minutes remaining and it was looking like scores had been decided, but wait here comes the Woodside attack, a through ball  and a fumbled kick, a post and in the back of the net. Finally some breathing space for the Woodside Rams.

Lots of side line throws and goal kicks and general slowing down of play and the game was won. Great team work Woodside Rams.
