Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Blue

The Under 8s Round 13 match between Hahndorf and Mount Barker United Blue provided a minute silence prior to kick-off in memory of Rob Kilpatrick.
Hahndorf started the game on the front foot with Joshua Blain testing the Mt Barker
defence. Ali Semple managed to get a shot away that just missed the post. Hahndorf
showed some great individual skill, with Oliver Knight going on a mazy run when
released by a pinpoint pass from Levi Neumann. Owen Hoyle thought he made the
breakthrough with a long-range effort though a crowd of players, but it just missed
the target. Rosie Semple was in good defensive form and was able to release to Hoyle
who hit the target, but the keeper was able to save the shot. Mt Barker started to push
forward but were stopped by an alert midfield. Carter Hartley was involved in a heavy
challenge but was able to dust himself down; and showed no fear in getting back
involved in the game. In the second half Soren Mickan found his feet with some
great runs that had the Mt Barker defence on the backfoot. Mt Barker thought they
had a chance to take the lead with a breakaway counterattack, but a last ditch tackle
by Carter Hartley saved the team from going behind. The final minutes of the game saw Hahndorf
mount the pressure with multiple shots by Neumann, Mickan and Hoyle that had the crowd
on their feet. With the final whistle about to be blown Mickan fired the ball into
the back of the net for a goal. Hahndorf showed persistence and finally their determination was rewarded.

A great game played by both teams.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

Teamwork was our strength this week! Our team started strong with everyone playing with confidence and skill. Elliot told us from the beginning he was aiming for a 'hat trick' and a hat trick he gave us! He and the rest of the team were so proud and then another goal from Hayden gave us a win of 4-1.
sadie cheered from the side line this week with her broken arm from last weeks game which made her our lucky charm!

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White

Round 13 started the Hahndorf players and families donning black arm bands and observing a minutes silence in rememberance of of Rob Kilpatrick, Hahndorf Soccer Club Life Member and significant contributor to junior soccer and the Hahndorf Soccer Club as a whole.

Hahndorf U9 White faced a strong contest from Stirling Districts, which commenced with a quick run from Stirling and a cracking goal save by Josh Pettitt in the opening minutes. Benjamin Kowald then stopped another attack by Stirling in the field before blasting the ball back down the line. Against the run of play, Simran Singh capitalised on a fast break to score the first goal of the match. Hahndorf then settled, with Connor Ozolins and Thomas Gould having numerous shots at goal, the latter particularly unlucky not to score with a great effort that hit the post. At the other end, a fast attack by Stirling looked like a certain goal, but a diving save by Pettitt at full stretch managed to keep the ball out.

In the second half, Singh and Ozolins were both strong in defence, running hard to stop any attacks and following up with long kicks out of danger. Archie Greene arrived late, but was straight into the play, combining well with Jamie Timmins and Cohen Whinfield in the mid field and sending the ball forward to Tyson Bancroft in attack. Pettitt dodged around the opposition to land a solid ball in the back of the net and shortly after scored two more goals. A great effort by all involved in wet conditions.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Blue

Today’s match against Mount Barker United Blue began in balmy conditions but the rain was soon to set in. Hahndorf started strong, passing well, yet a fast, pint sized Mt Barker player found a small window to shoot for goal, hitting the post.

Congestion saw Mt Barker shoot for another goal but to no avail. Lachlan Gardiner‘s fast legs shot for a quick couple of goals but unfortunately the ball didn't find it's way in. A good save by Rowan Gilroy kept the ball out of Mt Barker’s striking  reach. There were goal attempts by Gardiner and Jackson Bidgood but the Mt Barker goalie was on point. A handball whistle blow allowed both teams to resume positions just as the rain set in. Hahndorf had plenty of subs to keep the legs fresh and much needed as all players were evenly running to both ends solidly.

Hahndorf kept the pressure on in the second half, with some fancy footwork by Caleb Earley in Hahndorf’s forward and timely defence by HuGo Curtis. A big kick by Zack Perkins defending well, bringing the ball back where Bidgood shot for goal but found the goalies gloves yet again. Jhett Frost’s big boot towards goal overshot, where the ball was recovered from the Carpark. A huge attempt by Gardiner to shoot for goal resulted in a collision but mt barker player #4 toughed it out and was back up and playing on. Mt barker showed solid defence but Hahndorf broke through for a great pass from Gardiner to Bidgood, shooting for goal, surely stinging the goalies gloves, being caught well. Lucca Falvo-Lopez then saved a strong run on single handedly. Ball back into play and a couple of attempts by Mt Barker keeping keeper Connor Castle on his toes, but still a goalless game. A great effort by both teams. And a big Thankyou to Graham Phillips for coaching the boys today while Eddie played his own game.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Stirling United Soccer Club

An very unexpected weather change with the sun coming out for us today. Right from the start the teams were equally matched and what a game it was. We were short a player so thank you Stirling for lending us a player for each half. We managed to open ourselves up today to give us more passing opportunities which paid of quickly with an early goal. Both goalies worked hard to defend through out the match.

The second half both teams scored well with some great team work and passing. William had the save of the day in goalie in this half. Well done to everyone in the team as you never gave up and worked well together.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black

It was a local derby at Hahndorf Soccer Club on Saturday as Under 10 White met Under 10 Black. The meet began with a solemn minute of silence in memory of great club man Rob Kilpatrick.

The game kicked off with both Magpie teams strong out of the gates, with a fantastic opening goal by Thomas Stapleton. Joel Bateman closely followed suit with another goal for Hahndorf White. Hahndorf Black returned serve with a goal before half time.  Goalkeeper Eddie Bjordal fiercely defended attempts at goal by Hahndorf Black, strongly support by Hahndorf Whites wall of defence by Lawson Shotton, Daniel Peters and Harry Woods. Will Tully asserted himself in attack and Jensen Ingram and Billy Cook showcased their strong footwork as they moved in to defence. Both Magpie teams delivered an impressive game of skill, with many of the players showing to be well placed for the move in to Competitive play next Winter.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (4) vs Stirling United Soccer Club (2)

This top of the table clash had been on the cards for a while with both teams parrying top spot on the ladder for weeks, for the Woodside Blues this was game of the season.

Both teams started off quick and hard, but within 2 minutes Sid Cotton had a lob from outside the penalty area and for what seemed like an age, this dropped into the United goal just under the crossbar – game on. From the following kick-off Ryan Sutton found space on the right wing and hit the second attempt at goal inches high. United were relentless in the midfield and continually made life hard for the Woodside defence with Oliver Boerth and James Lunnon struggling to keep up with United’s quick strikers, those that did get through were mopped up by Morgan Burroughes and Barnaby Bevans quick thinking and quick hands in goal, Woodside gained some composure in the latter parts of the half with Ryan Sutton scoring another trademark cracker from the right wing and 3 minutes later Dom Silvestri came on from the bench and added to his seasons remarkable tally.

The second half started with less gusto than the first with both teams probably feeling the previous 35 minutes, however, United gained the upper hand and within 4 minutes had pulled themselves onto the scoresheet. With continuous tussles in midfield it would take a great through ball for someone to gain the upper hand, With Eddie Moylan running the right wing and Jesse Mewett running the left, the break came again and Dom Silvestri struck a great ball across the face of goal with Sid Cotton missing it by millimetres. The next foray towards goal was more successful with Ryan Sutton snapping another ball in from the edge of the box. With a few changes made Woodside were holding on, with Will Limbert moved to left back and Mack Olsson in midfield the ball was confidently getting cleared. Close towards the end of the second half a goalmouth scramble ensued with Poppy Thomas moved into a forward position she had her attempt cleared off the line. After both teams had gained composure it was to be a final attack from United’s fast forwards, too fast for Morgan Burroughes who unfortunately gave away the penalty, with United slotting this home for the last kick of the game, a game where Barnaby Bevan  received player of the day for saving 14 attempts at goal– final score Woodside Blues 4 Stirling United 2, a fantastic thriller for the penultimate game of the season, great game Stirling United.

Hahndorf U12 vs Woodside Warriors U12 Gold

While the weather forecast did not look promising heading into the weekend by the time Saturday arrived the sun was shining and looked promising for a great game.

The players met and held a minutes silence in memory of Rob Kirkpatrick. It was an emotional start showing tribute to a legendary man of the club.

The starting whistle blew and it was game on! Hahndorf came out strong and it didn’t take long before Hahndorf’s Blane Balcom scored the first goal. Angus Misfud, Joash Ng and Jet Zahra were strong in defence with Woodside struggling to get the ball down their end. Balcom was persistent and was rewarded with another shot on goal which narrowly missed. Woodside had a strong throw in with Misfud gaining control for Hahndorf. Toby Perkins and Zahra had several strong kicks in succession ensuring the ball went toward Hahndorf’s end. Ryley Neumann had control of the ball and eyed off the goals but was not able to convert. Luca Cannavo got the ball to Jacob Neumann who scored the next goal. In an exciting match Henri Bjordal had a great tussel with a woodside player and managed to maintain control of the ball and passed to Zack Schwarz who had an attempt on goal and unfortunately the ball sailed over the top of the goals. Woodside managed to break through defence and sneakily got a goal past Pepe Zahra. With only minutes to go Schwarz attempted a final goal with the ball being caught by Woodside.

5 minutes into the second half, Ryley Neumann kicked a fast ball straight into the back of the net. Hahndorfs score was quickly met with a goal by Woodside. Hahndorf was on fire with Liam Sickerdick showing great determination by running the ball to Hahndorfs end with help from Mifsud it got to Neumann, J who converted it into another goal. Within minutes Neumann, J kicked the ball backward over his head, narrowly missing goal where the ball landed to Neumann, R who was unlucky to convert. After some great play by all players on the field Neumann, J was able to score another goal. Sickerdick’s determination was again rewarded with a strong kick seeing the ball sail over the goalies head. Woodside’s goalie threw the ball in where Cooper Liddle gained control and in great skill ran the ball down the field to Hahndorf’s end. The Neumann brothers finished a great game with another goal each to their name.

Hahndorf would like to thank Woodside for a great game and the Umpires and Coaches.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold (2) vs Hahndorf Soccer Club Black (8)

We had a forcast of bad weather and ended up with t shirt weather. The match was delayed due to a umpire issue and then further delayed for a minute silence to show respect for a life member of hahndorf that past away. By 12;00 noon, we were underway and pressure was felt from the outset of the match with hahndorf deep in woodsides forward half for what seemed like most of the game, i think there was about 10 corners and 20 saves, but regardless of the pressure the warriors continued to hold back the onslaught for most of the match. half time score of 1-2 and three quarters 3-2 and only the last 15 minutes when we began to lose our legs with the up hill slog at Hahndorf and Hahndorf finished up solid victors 2-8 with a well drilled outfit .

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (8*) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Gold (2)

Woodside U12 Red travelled to Murray Bridge to face Murray Bridge Gold. A 2.30pm late start found the Warriors enjoying a fixture basked in afternoon sunshine. Both teams started well and a relatively even contest between each midfield started to unfold.

Nate Dealtry, Finn Randell and Deagen Arnold started in defense and were troubled a few times on Bridge’s counter attack. Axel Vassos provided good support in goals and fed midfielders Elliot Klein, Rojo Nambiar, and Thomas Honner with good clearance balls which set up forwards Josh Constable and Finn Craddock with great passes deep into the Warrior’s forward line. Wingers Jamie Spooner and Jordan Virgara assisted with keeping the pressure on Bridge’s defenders. Half time saw Warriors go 4-1 up into the break. Still feeling the effects from the mid-week carnival and with no substitutes to call on the Warriors were again looking weary during the team huddle but agreed that more pressure needed to be applied to the opposing ball carrier. The second half saw a flurry of goals which collectively saw Nambiar, Constable and Klein all register hattricks whilst Cradock picked up a brace of goals. Defensively, Arnold played another stunning game and controlled the defensive zones and provided some great carry out of defense. Honner playing in an unusual midfield role also showed the Warriors that he can hold a counter attack at bay before it was carried into the Warrior’s defensive half. Some notable highlights included Nambiar’s goal from the corner kick and Klein’s stunning deft pass to Constable in front of the Bridge’s goal mouth led to one of the goal assists of the season.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White (1) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Blue (5)

It was an overcast yet sunny afternoon when Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Under 12 Blue hosted Hahndorf Soccer Club Under 12 White captained by Oliver Aylen. Hahndorf players all wore black armbands in memory of Rob Kilpatrick, with both teams entering the pitch in ceremonial style before a minute’s silence. Strikers Levi Beesley and Hayden Lien and midfielder Zoe York had a promising start attacking on the centre left. However, it was just a few minutes before Murray Bridge Blue were able to push through defence and score the first goal of the match. Continued pressure from Murray Bridge saw some fearless defending by Oliver Aylen and keeper Ryder Hill. Midfielder Harrison Gould made a decisive pass to York before Murray Bridge once again controlled play and scored. Patrick Hinze in defence made some good passes through to Gould. Hayden Lien endured some rough play like a champion before another goal was conceded. Defender Oliver Dahmke demonstrated some strong skills, working well with Beesley. Defender Jasper Jones switched on with some of the most impressive play from him this season. Not to be outdone, defender Dante Man threw himself into the thick of it, delivering a solid kick sending the ball sailing back into Hahndorf White’s attack. As Murray Bridge Blue pushed back, there was more impressive work from Dahmke and Hill. Exceptional pressure and team work by Emlyn Gilroy, Beesley, York and Gould was frustratingly not rewarded on the score board. Murray Bridge pushed back again and scored. Hahndorf’s hunger for the ball did not subsided. Gould’s attempt on goal devastatingly sailed high above the cross bar, Dahmke’s bounced off the outside of the post and York’s was saved by the keeper. Mostly this first half was quite on the right, translating to not as much ball time for Gilroy, Jacob Gardner and Reilly Bowden as we’ve seen in previous weeks.

Harry Mumford arrived from other commitments in time to take to the pitch for the second half and he certainly brought his A game. Murray Bridge Blue pushed hard and were thwarted by a great save from Hill. Hahndorf White switched on and there was a good attempt on goal by Lien. Defenders Dahmke, Man, Aylen and Gardner really working the offside rule were, hugging the half line whenever Hahndorf White were in attack. Bowden effectively maintained this style of play with the others when he was brought on in defence. There were a couple of other great saves by the unflappable Hill. Mixing up play from some standards saw York take the sideline throw-ins to great effect giving opportunities to Gilroy, Gould and Dahmke to receive the ball. Beesley and York were once again working well together when Beesley was injured but his tenacity saw him stay on the pitch. Finally, Lien’s persistence finally paid off with a goal.

At the final whistle, the scores were Murray Bridge Blue 5 to Hahndorf White 1. Hahndorf Under 12 White wish to thank Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Under 12 Blue for the game played Saturday 12 September 2020.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (6*)

Well done to Woodside Reds who played a hard match against the Blues. Despite us knowing the Blues have outplayed most teams this year, it was great to see our heads up attitude giving it all. Coming away with a loss and still being able to be proud that we played the best we could without any negative feelings really shows our true strength. I’m proud that our positive attitudes and confidence are continuing to see our team play improve. I am no longer seeing ‘kick chasey’ but a group of responsible friends who own their spaces and roles that make life difficult for our opposition. They did not walk away easily today.

Our defence again played smartly, with Ruby covering her corner well and stopping many of the crosses that were trying to come through that side. Ryan played exceptionally in centre defence with many quick and sharp clearances, and Cohenn’s ownership of his space and intelligent handling of the ball within his reach makes him a real asset. Banjo had a great first half in keep with several strong saves and thoughtful movement when the ball came close. Manny worked exceptionally well in defence, owning his defensive wing and feeding several balls forward whilst hampering their wing moves.

Again our midfield is where our strength came hindering the Blues. They had no time to think or play creatively as we owned our space and pushed on the ball. Lysiane had a great match with many strong tackles and great balls forward. Bob pressured the ball through midfield again, closing down several of their midfielders. George was strong in his tackles and positioned himself several times in the centre ready to get another goal! Sam owned his space, tackled hard, passed quickly when needed and taking time to think when he had time.

We experimented with Flynn and Cooper in attack, and although they didn’t get many shots on goal, they constantly moved and did not give the Blues room to play in the back. Both still moved like defenders given both have only really played defence, but there were glimpses of reading the play and trying to get the ball as attackers do. Riley V had a huge job on his shoulders, and he was not only able to shut down one of their strongest play creators, but also pressure mistakes with his speed and determination. Riley T (despite him not believing it) played well in midfield, again, a position foreign to him. He had a hard time keeping in the second half with many shots coming, but as always he kept his head up and gave it his best.

Our game continues to improve week by week, and more than anything it is obvious that we have made individual improvements in skills, control and movement. Our team playing is coming along and now that we are owning our positions, continued work on communication, passing speed and accuracy is what we will work on!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (6*) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0)

Woodside Blue again played its friends and past teammates on a spring morning that threatened rain and storms which never eventuated.

For the first 10 minutes Woodside Blue pressured Woodside Red's defence but its structure and organisation repelled the Blues. Finally a Blues striker got through the defences and after his first attempt was saved by the keeper he followed it home and opened his account. The remainder of the half again saw the Woodside Red team defend well making it difficult for their opposition to find another way to goal. With only a few minutes to go the Blues got their second and a minute before the break they got their third. At half time Woodside Blue 3 Woodside Red 0

Both teams shuffled players and again Reds defended well but after a well taken corner by Blue the ball found the head of a player who headed it down to an incoming player and Blue had their fourth. While Blue continued to make opportunities and score Red made sure it was not easy. Reds defended till the end but Blue were just too strong on the day.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (5) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc White (2)

On an overcast day that threatened rain, U16 Hahndorf faced off at 9 am against Strathalbyn. In the first fifteen minutes Hahndorf pressed and held possession and it seemed only a matter of time before a goal would be scored. Strath had a few good breaks which were plugged by Alex Montagu and Kit Erhart-Bruce. Jackson Doley attempted a goal for Hahndorf which the Strath keeper ably defended (the first of many). The first goal went to Strath from a penalty kick. Another opportunity for Strath came in the form of a free (followed by a header) but was capably defended by Hahndorf 'keeper James Bagley. Hahndorf's first goal of the match was from Kane Gibbs, returning after a two week absence.  About halfway through the first half, possession evened up, with Hahndorf resorting to a game of aerial ping pong, with many long shots that didn’t land and lots of action down the centre of the pitch. In the second half, with clouds finally squeezing out some rain, Hahndorf rallied, resulting in a goal by Gibbs, one by Kyle Fenlon, a header by Doley off a corner and a final goal by Gibbs (a hat trick!).

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club (4) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (1)

The Ranger’s ladder position is far from reflective of their efforts throughout the season.

Whilst they share the bottom rung with BHS Forest, the difference between the two a single goal, what they don’t share, with all other teams, is an undeniable passion to keep playing despite the odds.

We’re not talking a heads up superficial attitude, but something beyond. An unshakeable vigour perhaps.

Awesome goals don’t matter. Beefing each other up all the way through to the 80th minute matters. Winning at all odds doesn’t matter. Supporting each other to play better in both this game and the next matters.

For that reason they can’t lose. They might not win, but there’s no way you can beat them.

This played out on Saturday morning’s game between Woodside and Rangers. Their previous encounter back in August saw Woodside only just scrape through by a single goal.

This time around the aim by Woodside was to play as well as their previous game, a win over ladder leader’s Hahndorf. If they could play like that the score should be much better.

They didn’t play as well. Sure, they ended up winning 4-1 this time around, but there wasn’t too many Warriors who thought they couldn’t have played better.

“Knowing that you could have done better is not a bad place to be”, said Coach BRUCE TONKIN post-game. “We’ll take this as a gentle reminder that we’ll need to dig deeper next time. Well done to the Rangers for their season. I have no doubt they’ll be back.”

SAM HERMAN picked up Best and Fairest for his efforts, whilst JOSH VASSOS and AIDEN SUTTON picked up second and third respectively.

The next and final round of the season sees Rangers served an awkward BYE, whilst Woodside will travel to Strathalbyn in their second encounter of the season – a game to be watched.

Stirling Districts Soccer Club (3) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club (0)

The forcasted weather had all spectators dressed for the pouring rain that was being predicted, but instead the bright sun had both teams removing jumpers and jackets and drinking LOTS of water.

The Stirling District girls went into the first half playing hard. Tries for goals were made by all attacking (and even some defending) team mates, but with only one success story - Hannah Noonan sneaking a goal up high to put the first point of the day in her name. The attackers kept pushing strong, but with no further goals achieved to either team.

The half time talk had the Stirling District girls once again ready to attack. Emma Dalton in goals blocking many tries for goal to secure her team no scores against them. Char Langley meanwhile kept the ball driving down the pitch to try for goals many times. In fact, all the Stirling attackers kept pushing the ball to the goal, but it was Char who convincingly took two goals to her name and secured the win for Stirling District.

Hahndorf Soccer Club (1) vs Torrens Valley Soccer Club (4)

Warm conditions greeted the Hahndorf and Torrens Valley teams. A minute silence was observed for club legend and stalwart Rob Kilpatrick and the girls were ready to go. Hahndorf’s defence was put under constant pressure from Torrens Valley but the efforts of Grace Haynes, Jemma Langford and Ruby Tully thwarted many attempts at their goals. Gracie Curtis and Amiel Kerber played a solid game in the midfield, always on the run. With their great pace and skills pushed the ball forward many times only to hit a wall of defence from Torrens Valley. Torrens Valley were able to score 2 goals in the first half, not before Charlotte Fairley saved many attempts. It was another fast paced second half, once again solid pressure from Torrens Valley using the ball effectively to score another 2 goals against Hahndorf. It was a moment of pure hunger and determination from Gracie Curtis to hustle her way through Torrens defence to score a fantastic goal finally putting the Hahndorf girls on the scoreboard. Whilst Hahndorf battled on with many game time injuries it wasn’t enough to fight back with Torrens Valley finishing the 4-1 against a never say die Hahndorf

Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc White (7*) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (1)

The season is coming to a close, with only one game to go for the Strikers teams. Red and White faced off in unexpected heat for the second to last game of the season. Despite the warm conditions and pressure of late game matches, it was a fairly light-hearted.

Both teams were playing well and Strath Red was proving to be tough opposition for Strath White. The reds got the first shot at goal, but Matilda Mundy, Strath White’s fantastic goalkeeper, blocked it. The Whites attacked with determination after that, trying to get the early advantage. Brooklyn Rigney earned a corner kick, and Leah Davis snuck it past the Reds goalkeeper, Isla. Soon after, Brooklyn tried to score a goal herself, but sent it over the crossbar.

Although the Whites had got a head start, the Reds made up for it only ten minutes later, sprinting through the defence line and scoring. They quickly tried to earn another, but Matilda saved it. The back and forth game continued, as Brooklyn sprinted down the middle with perfect control. She executed a powerful kick into the goals, taking the score to 2-1. Brooklyn dived straight back into the action, working well with Savannah. After an accurate pass, Savannah accidently took the ball offside, giving the Reds a free kick. However, it didn’t result in any goals.

Savannah shone on the wing, helping her team immensely. She and some others tried to score, but nothing was achieved. Another star player on the wing was Bonnie, who after taking a quick nap before the game was all fired up and playing at her best. Layla Frahn was also shining on the field, working tirelessly to get the ball past the goalkeeper. Some players were subbed, bringing fresh legs onto the pitch. Savannah was moved to striker, where she showed skill and determination. Leah worked well with her, passing cleanly and accurately. Gemma was also having a great game on the wing, running up and down the line, proving to be an asset to the team. It was now Brooklyn’s time to shine (again), using her clever footwork to manoeuvre around the goalkeeper and scoring her second goal of the game. Even though the whites were ahead, the Reds were playing spectacularly as well. Their goalkeeper, Isla, was put to the test when Layla launched a powerful kick directly into a goal corner. Using her incredible speed and reflexes, she managed to block it!

In quick response, Strath Red get an opportunity in front of goal. They score, but to their disappointment the ref calls offside. In an exhilarating show of determination, Layla charges down the pitch with the goals in her sights. Isla isn’t deterred by her terrifying speed, and rushes out to save the goal.

Bonnie Clothier continued to put on an amazing show. She was strong in defence, and working closely with her twin sister Maddie.

The second half started as an even match between the teams, with the ball passed back and forth like a tennis game. It also saw the epic return of team captain Estelle, scoring her first goal since fracturing her foot in an earlier game. She was playing excellently in midfield, working well with the rest of the team. Bonnie passed to Layla, setting her up for a goal, and she slipped the ball in with perfect execution. Layla quickly tried to score two in a row, but her shot was blocked. The reds decided to take control of the game, and attacked fiercely. Matilda, the whites goalie, was bombarded with goal shots, but her goalkeeping skills made sure that not one got through. White’s Hannah also played well, keeping the pressure on the opposition, and Katie maintained great control with the ball.

Estelle was accidentally tripped by a reds player, earning them a free kick. Leah used this opportunity to try and score, but it was saved cleanly by Isla. Savannah was once again caught offside, but Brooklyn managed to take possession of the ball and shoot a goal! She attempted to score a few times after that, but was not successful. As the reds started attacking again, Hannah from the whites defended furiously, always keeping the ball away from her goals. The game had become a back and forth tug of war, both sides determined. Gemma took a shot at goal that was blocked, and soon after Hannah was stopping balls in defence. No team scored for minutes, until Layla scored a terrific goal. Spurred on by this, the whites played harder, with Brooklyn, Maddie and Bonnie working as a great team. After a enthusiastic bump from Brooklyn, she is presented with a yellow card by referee Lewis. Perhaps a little jest between the two.

After a few final shots. at goal from the whites, the whistle is blown and the game is over, 8-1. Strath white has proven they are a tough team to beat- they can only hope for a similar result next week, the final game.

Torrens Valley Soccer Club (6) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (0)

After their close game last week against Woodside Torrens Valley came out of the blocks and scored the first goal within the first 2 minutes.  They stayed on top all afternoon.  However, that didn’t stop Woodside trying different tactics throughout the game.

Torrens Valley was pushing forward continually and the Woodside defence was doing the best they could in protecting their goal.  The woodside goalie did a great job under consistent pressure.  Torrens Valley had to try different ways of getting goals like cheeky little toe pokes or booting goals from further out.

Torrens Valley was 6-0 at half time, thanks in part to the great attacking work of Adelaide Williams.

The second half had some great moments from both teams, in particular Woodside’s MJ Strauss who booted some mighty kicks.  In the end, Torrens Valley was to strong even though there were many offside errors.
