Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club

This sunny Saturday morning saw Hahndorf U7s take on Stirling Districts at the very muddy and boggy Mylor Oval. The pre-game warmups conducted in misty conditions, eventually made way for the sun, with Hahndorf offence Avery Buchanan and Alfie McConville facing the sun for the first half, backed up by Asa Bartsch, Finn Bond, and Chloe Pippos in the mid-field, and Ryan Glynn, Patrick Griggs, and William Moran (goalkeeper) in Hahndorf’s defense. Unfortunately, the sun wasn’t too much of an issue for Hahndorf, as Stirling Districts really came to play! The Hahndorf defense were caught off-guard, with a barrage of goal attempts by Stirling Districts. Stirling Districts’ strong offensive attack meant Moran (goalkeeper) saw plenty of action throughout the first half, and achieve many impressive saves! Crowding tactics by Stirling Districts at midfield made it difficult for Hahndorf to breach, however the addition of the fresh legs of Victor Bartsch in offense, and a positional swap of Buchanan and McConville to defense, and Bond and Glynn to the midfield/offense at the at midway through the first half caused a stir and Stirling Districts had to switch up their tactics. The determination of V Bartsch taking the ball for a run gave opportunity for Pippos to have a solid shot at goal. The Bartsch brothers’ repeated relentlessness to the ball meant Hahndorf saw more of their offensive side in the second half, but were sadly unable to convert to a goal.

The second half started with Pippos substituted off, Moran joining the offensive line and Buchanan in the highly sought-after goalkeeper role. These changes saw a big shift in the game, with Moran shining in the striker role and Buchanan skillfully directing his defensive line of Griggs and Glynn further afield for a number of saves. This turnover saw Hahndorf dominating the attack with Moran and the Bartsch brothers forming a strong offensive line, backed up by Bond and McConville in the midfield. The midfield and offense worked together well, inching the ball towards goal for an onslaught of goal attempts by Moran, Bond, and the Bartsch brothers. Unfortunately, the Stirling Districts defense was just too strong and kept Hahndorf scoreless. Similarly, Stirling Districts were struggling to pass through the Hahndorf defensive line, as Glynn, Griggs, and Buchanan (goalkeeper) formed a formidable team! After a fastbreak by Stirling Districts, Glynn confidently stopped Stirling Districts in their tracks and returned the ball to the Hahndorf midfield. A further turnover by Stirling Districts saw the pressure on Hahndorf’s defense and – surely with some Matilda’s motivation – V Bartsch stunned the onlookers with an impressive header out of defense! An impressive game today by Hahndorf U7s, which unfortunately wasn’t represented in the scoreline. Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank the Stirling Districts team and officials for an exciting game!

U8 - Round 13 - 5/8/2023

Mount Barker White Vs Woodside Warriors Red

Woodside Recreation Ground – Modified Pitch – 10:00am

We hosted Mt Barker White at Woodside this week, leading up to the game there was some confusion due to a random change in the Fixture.  With a lot of noise coming from the sidelines cheering on our young champs, the crowd was really getting into the game, and the guys were determined to win.

As soon as the game started, it was evident that they guys were working hard to build on their successful teamwork from last week.  Nathaniel & Jesse both making numerous strong runs through the midfield and into attack.  Ed worked himself into a dangerous position to receive a pass, turned, & sent a shot screaming past the keeper to put us on the scoreboard and saw himself with his first goal of the year.  As the first half went on we watched a great piece of team play with a brilliantly delivered cross from Archer to Scott racing into the ideal spot for a one touch goal. I n addition to shifting the ball away from the Mt. Barker attack and launching their own quick attacks, Freddie and Luca worked as our rock-solid defence, not letting anything get past them.

During the second half we had a few adding to the tally, both Mitchell & Daniel showcasing their forward movement & putting the ball in the back of the net.  There was some great ball movement & some hard running from the boys that created a huge amount of scoring opportunities. I t was great to see everyone build on last weeks game to put together another great team game.

Everyone's ball control and confidence in deciding whether to pass or take on a player is impressive.  It's exciting to see how the lads move into a position, confident that their teammates will do their best to get the ball in the right area. You're all doing an excellent job, boys!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue

A chilly morning threatening rain saw Hahndorf take on Woodside at Rob Kilpatrick Park. A real highlight of the first half was the back three for Hahndorf; Charlie Kilpatrick and Art Neville as left and right backs and Carter Karamanov as goalkeeper. Great positioning and tackling from Kilpatrick and Neville denied Woodside many shots on goal. When the Woodside attackers did manage to break through they were met by the tenacious C Karamanov in goal who produced many fine saves to keep Hahndorf in the game.

Hahndorf scored first with Brooklyn Karamanov scoring in the bottom left corner after a fine intercept and attacking run.

Kealan Atkinson was proving a strong defensive presence in the midfield, with some crucial tackles shutting down Woodside’s attacking options.

A strong passing combination from Zeek Neelawala and Kilpatrick put B Karamanov in on the Woodside goal, with his shot fizzing just wide of the post.

Eric Jager held his attacking position with diligence. His presence up the field meant Hahndorf always had a passing option moving forward in attack.

Halftime saw the obligatory oranges and watermelon. Hahndorf captain, Neville put on the gloves and continued C Karamanov form in goal from the first half, making many saves. The courageous performance by both keepers kept Hahndorf in the game.

Will Neelawala showed his great ball control with some attacking runs that heaped pressure on the Woodside midfield and defence. One effort saw a shot go into the side netting having the Hahndorf support thinking they’d pegged a goal back for a brief moment.

B Karamanov second goal saw his second Cristiano Ronaldo celebration and the second cringing reaction from his mum on the sidelines.

Z Neelawala, Kilpatrick and C Karamanov were immense in their defensive effort in the second half. With fluent passing, they were able to make use of the possession gained by their tackling.

The game ended with Woodside the victors but the Hahndorf support delighted to see what might be the strongest team performance of the season so far. Well done boys!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold vs F.C Summit White

Fresh off three wins-in-a-row the confident Woodside Gold team met Summit White at Anembo Park in cold but fine conditions. Summit must be congratulated for their effort in setting up the grounds with sign-written gazebos, a sizzling barbecue and even arranging a coffee van to be on site. The two Summit teams have been excellent this season with their smattering of State League players so the Gold team knew it was going to be a tough outing.

The first half began with Summit attacking hard but Gold's defence was holding firm with Jack Hogan, Charlie Dvorak and Logan Pielago clearing the ball. In the midfield Ashley Hendrie and Stefan Sims were moving the ball forward while Mason Payne was getting plenty of kicks, often against bigger opponents. Gold had matched the Summit stars but with a few minutes left in the half, Summit scored.

As the second half began Gold changed strategy to try and pull even. The two Tobys were sent as strikers and the equaliser nearly came when Toby Smith smashed a strike into the upright but it rebounded back into play. Unfortunately this push forward depleted Gold's defence and despite the defiance from Zaion Lorifice, Summit's bigger, more experienced players began to take control of the game. Summit netted twice late in the half for a hard fought victory. Gold should be proud of their effort. The scoreline probably didn't do justice for Gold who matched Summit for much of the match.

Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue vs Hahndorf Soccer Club White

What a game. We scored goals. Our strongest performance yet kids. So proud of how far you have come. Today we really showed of our training and team work. A fabulous effort by the team in supporting our striker Fergus. Awesome defence in the goals by our Eloise. And thankyou to Hahndorf for hosting us today. We have had a fabulous morning.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue

Hahndorf played one of their best games for the season, displaying some great ball skills, strong teamwork and greater confidence.  From the start of the game there was consistent passing between players and plenty of opportunities to attack, the first shot at goal being taken by Eden Stell. Good to have Anu Duggin Delany back, who worked hard up and down the field and scored with a sensational goal in the first half. Duggin Delany worked well with Amelie Rymer and Charlotte Rymer who were strong in the attack, keeping the Stirling team under pressure.  In our back lines, Saskia Merry and Kaylee Sheremetjev were strong in defence, and Scout Ramsey sensational in goals.  Stirling snuck through a goal to even up the score just before half time.   In the second half there were plenty of opportunities for both teams to score, with Duggin Delany, Stell and Ramsey working hard in the middle to get the ball forward to C. Rymer and A. Rymer, with both having shots on goal which unfortunately didn’t convert.  Merry again played an excellent defensive half and had plenty of clearing kicks to the midfield. Sheremetjev tried hard to keep the Stirling attack at bay but a quick goal from Stirling early on in the second half had the team working hard for the rest of the game to level the score.  A fantastic effort from everyone today with sensational teamwork and encouragement between players.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club White

The pitch was muddy and Hahndorf’s Under 9’s were keen to take on Stirling White at Mylor oval Saturday morning.

Miles Hennessy started the game off strong, scoring a goal not longer after the whistle blew. However, Stirling picked up the pace, making the first half a very evenly matched game. Charlie Roeszler started the first half off as goalkeeper who did a fantastic job with the help of our defence players Angus Ross and Saxon Sulskis. Harris Parkyn did wonderful in the midfield, bringing it forward with some excellent passing onto Michael Griggs who had some great shots at goal.

The second half saw Ross as goalkeeper who tried his best with the help from Roeszler and Sulskis in defence but unfortunately Stirling’s forward players started the second half off very strong. Hamish Glynn showed his skills in the second half scoring a goal along with getting the ball off the opposition and moving it down towards goal allowing other team members multiple attempts at goal aswell.

All players played a great game and came off the pitch very muddy.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs F.C Summit Green

Conditions: Slight drizzle 8 degrees

Strong pressure from both sides with equal scoring opportunity. A lot of back and forth resulting in some high intensity gameplay and parental anxiety! Daniel on fire in the goals with some great saves!

Score at half time was 0-0. Referee took the opportunity at half time to advise the kids to be careful of late tackles.

The team was looking puffed after the first half but after a few oranges they came back in the second half with more intensity. Back and forth play again which impressive to watch but Summit manage to sneak through 2 goals. The ball spending a little more time in Woodside’s half. Woodside having many scoring opportunities also but not quite able to get one past the goalie. Great work from Will in goals making many saves under high pressure!

 Great job team!

U10

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club Blue

The Under 10's showed no sign of defeat during the game. They showed great team work calling for the ball and played their positions well. Murray Bridge came into the game with only 7 players making it more of challenge for both teams. They certainly had some skilled players  and played hard.

We had some amazing passes, with this giving many of our players opportunity to score. Awesome ball skills amongst our players which lead to many goals scored by Banjo, Aussie and Justin. This couldn't have happened without the support from other team mates.

Aussie and Banjo held the forte in goals this week both of them working hard with the support of their defence players being Eva, Hannah and Ryder. Tomke stepped up to support our defense and midfield making it harder for the opposition to pass.

Bobby, Max and Justin ran the field like their was no tomorrow they certainly proved their skills up front. Theo showed great skill in midfield and proved himself he was more than capable to play this position.

By the end of the game all players came off exhausted. They worked extremely hard as a team and they most certainly deserved the win.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc

In an intense showdown between Woodside Warriors and Strathalbyn, the final whistle blew with the scoreboard on level scores, as both teams fought tooth and nail to secure a victory. The match was a testament to the skill and determination of both sides.

Woodside Warriors dominated possession throughout the game, showcasing their prowess in controlling the ball. Their midfielders orchestrated precise passes, creating several goal-scoring opportunities. However, Strathalbyn's defense proved to be a formidable obstacle, thwarting most of Woodside's attempts.

The opening goal came from Strathalbyn, breaking the deadlock, but Woodside Warriors retaliated swiftly, leveling the score with a brilliantly executed set-piece. The rest of the match saw end-to-end action, with both teams pushing for a decisive goal. Remarkable saves by both goalkeepers ensured that the score remained tied.

In the end, it was a closely-skilled game that highlighted the talent and determination of both sides. The tie was a fair reflection of the evenly matched contest, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (6)

When Woodside Warriors U15 travelled to the Summit to tackle Mt Barker, they were greeted by a number of unfamiliar faces in the home side. It was unclear to the visitors where these players had come from, but they certainly made their impact felt during a brutal encounter between two very willing sides.

The last time these two sides met, the game ended in one of Mt Barker’s notorious draws (they’ve had 4 this season). Both sides wanted to go one better this time but it was Mt Barker who drew first blood, catching the Warriors napping outside their box to send a rocket into the back of the net from 30 yards out. It was a horror start for the visitors to go down a goal in the third minute of play, but they steeled themselves on the back of it and got on with things. From there, the game became a tough, physical encounter, with neither side willing to give quarter. Mt Barker dominated play for extended periods in the first half, but the Warriors stood true to their name, fighting desperately in their own half, pressing all-comers and keeping their nest clean. Eventually Barker did break through, finding the back of the net from a corner. This was to become an Achilles heel for Woodside through the course of the game with the visitors a head shorter than their opponents across the board. But despite giving away a considerable size advantage, Woodside fought like terriers to keep the score two – nil at half time.

After the break, Woodside came out fighting. They were defending with purpose, winning the ball and controlling it with a beautiful mix of short and long passing that repeatedly put them deep into enemy territory. But the majority of these raids were brought to a premature end through disciplined defensive work and/or outstanding goal keeping. The Barker keeper was not only a thorn in the Warriors’ sides when forced to make a save, but was exceptional outside his box, clearing several dangerous balls that the visitors sent into attack. The turn around in fortunes for the Warriors was highlighted by a ten-minute period in which they manufactured four shots on target, while their opponents struggled to get within range. And there were times when the crowd thought a comeback was a very real possibility. The middle of the second half saw the ball flying frantically from end to end as 22 players desperately tried to gain their side the ascendency. But as quickly as Woodside had wrested momentum their way, it suddenly swung away from them. After 32 minutes without a goal in the second half, Mt Barker forced another corner. The ball sailed powerfully into the box, found a Barker chest, dropped to the ground, was cleared into someone’s back, bobbled, was cleared into another red shirt and eventually hacked into the net. It was a cruel blow to the Warriors, but just reward for a Mt Barker side who can scrap with the best of them. This one hurt the Warriors, who until now had backed themselves to at least close the gap, if not draw or win the contest. Suddenly their legs looked heavier, their decision making seemed tired. A couple of clearances were sent back into the middle of the pitch, where the Red and Blue were now a step short of the ball. And in the final three minutes of play, three quick goals broke Woodside hearts and flattered the home side on the scorecard. It was a brutal end to a tough match. As the two sides came together to shake hands, there was blood on knees and bruises from shoulder to toe, but they shook hands, shouted some cheers and the Warriors looked forward to facing their foe again and the chance for retribution.

U17

Hahndorf Soccer Club (2) vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red (4)

The Hahndorf under 17 team put in a great effort but unfortunately lost 4-2 to the Woodside Red team at the Woodside Recreation Ground.

Hahndorf started strongly with multiple attempts on goal by Toby Thomas, however the first goal of the day went to Woodside, quickly followed by a goal from Charlie Zorkovic for Hahndorf.  15 minutes in Woodside scored a second goal. This was followed by an attempt on goal from Nicholas Brown and Oscar Johnson which was saved by Woodside.  Mitchell Stribley, Gabe Aylen and Oliver Combe were all excellent in defence, intercepting and chasing down attacks. Tom Boekel saved multiple goals as Woodside continued their attack. Lewis Johnson and George Papakostas were solid in the midfield with Papakostas taking multiple corner kicks for Hahndorf.

The second half started with 2 quick goals from Woodside as they broke through Hahndorf’s defence.  Johnson, Johnson and Thomas combined for an attack on goal by Hahndorf but were unsuccessful. With Aylen moved into an attack in the second half, he, Oscar Johnson and Thomas all had multiple attempts on goal.  Oscar Johnson finally broke through late in the second half for a second goal to Handorf.

Handorf best players - # 15 BOEKEL, Tom = 3; # 12 JOHNSON, Oscar = 2; # 11 THOMAS, Toby = 1

Hahndorf played well but were outplayed on the day. Congratulations to Woodside Red on their win.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Rams (4) vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (1)

Round 13                    Mount Barker Vs Woodside Rams     Venue Summit

What a beautiful day , during the week we played a catch up game that showed the girls that mount barker are here to play soccer after drawing with us. I don’t think this sat very well with our girls as round 13 did not bring bad luck, but instead brought fire and fierceness.

Every single girl was here to play and give it absolutely everything, right from the first whistle our girls looked dominant and explosive and tenatious and powerful.

The game had not been going very long and a push forward had happened from our determined forward line and a shot on goal bounced off the keeper, but a new person in our forward line up picked up the crumbs and finished the job, one up with almost the whole game still to play. Well this did not stop the WoodsideRams from continuing there fight. It was as though we had decided we were going to play in Barkers defensive half today, everytime the ball managed to cross the half way line the fire in our defence were on it sending the ball back to our midfield who would battle through and then back to our forward line to create pressure and press they did to the point where there was another shot on goal and wait it had bounced off the post and our new found pigeon with super fast reflexes found the crumbs again and finished the job. 2 up at the break.

Second half was looking much the same with most of the play in our attacking , so much so that we were battleing in the box and one ourselves a penalty . to keep it fair and fun for the girls we gave a defender a chance to take the penalty and bang game on Barker we were up by 3.

As we know soccer is never over till the final whistle and Barker managed to finally get a break through and get one back .

This was not liked by our girls so they took it to Barker one last time finishing them off with a final goal.

Well done Girls it was a Team that one it today everyone giving all they had and no one standing watching play go by. Great game and you deserve the victory.
