Hahndorf Soccer Club vs F.C Summit

This beautiful, sunny Saturday winter morning saw Hahndorf U7s take on FC Summit at Rob Kilpatrick Park in a modified 8v8 game. The first half saw William Moran, Finn Bond, and Victor Bartsch in offense, Axel Pym and Avery Buchanan in the midfield, and Patrick Griggs, Asa Bartsch, and Ryan Glynn (goalkeeper) in defense. Both sides appeared evenly matched, with the ball spending a lot of time in the midfield, with many attempts at FC Summit goal thwarted by A Bartsch and Griggs before even reaching Glynn in goal. At the 10-minute mark, Hamish Holmes was substituted on for Buchanan and the injection of fresh legs saw several unsuccessful attempts at goal by both Holmes and V Bartsch, until V Bartsch scored Hahndorf’s first and only goal for the first half!

After the halftime restructure, we saw A Bartsch, Glynn, and Holmes making up the front line, Moran and V Bartsch in midfield, and Pym, Buchanan and Bond (goalkeeper) making up Hahndorf’s defensive line. FC Summit fought back with renewed vigour and relentlessly attacked Hahndorf’s defensive line, ultimately scoring a goal for their efforts. At the 10-minute mark, Griggs was set to rejoin the team, with Glynn coming off for a rest after taking a close punt to the neck. However, soon after rejoining the side, Griggs fell with an injury to his foot, and was subbed back off for the rest of the game. After a confusing ‘own goal’ from FC Summit, the thrilling match came to an end. Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank theFC Summit team and officials for an exciting game!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red

Woodside Red came out strong, obviously confident on their home ground and putting early pressure on the Hahndorf side. Undeterred, Carter Karamanov and Charlie Kilpatrick were a strong defensive force with Eric Jager supporting with a huge kick that sent the ball down Hahndorf’s end. Kealan Atkinson in goals managed some great saves and an amazing kick out that was passed down the pitch almost heading towards Hahndorf goals before being turned around by the strong Woodside defenders who followed it through for the first goal of the game. Woodside kept this momentum going to score their next goal which Atkinson had positioned himself well to save, but unfortunately the ball just slipped through.

Fighting back, Will Neelawala showed great control dribbling the ball right down to the box for a shot on goal where he unfortunately became outnumbered by Woodside defenders. They moved the ball on quickly, leaving the Hahndorf defenders behind and bearing down on Atkinson in goals who stood strong and made an excellent save.

Woodside continued their strong performance in the second half with another quick goal. During another attack, Hahndorf showed incredible team spirit, gathering around W. Neelawala to check he was okay after his body was on the receiving end of the ball delivered by a powerful Woodside kick. Art Neville was consistently delivering some strong kicks through the centre of the pitch, along with Brooklyn Karamanov who pulled off some excellent steals.

Zeek Neelawala in goals for the second half was kept under immense pressure by the dominant Woodside offence, but still managed some great saves. Despite Hahndorf’s efforts, Woodside continued to play incredibly well as a team, positioning themselves well and passing the ball effectively, following it all the way to the goals.

U8 - Round 12- 29/7/2023

Woodside Warriors Red Vs Hahndorf

Woodside Recreation ground – Modified Pitch 1 – 09:00am

The guys were all fired up and eager to demonstrate their new skills after a really great practise session on Wednesday night, during which everyone benefited from understanding the importance of strong passing & running to dangerous positions. The weather was ideal for some fast-paced attacks from all sections of the pitch, despite the fact that the playing surface was a little heavy underfoot.

It was fantastic to watch the ball being passed around by the entire team as the first half got started. The Hahndorf defence remained solid, holding its ground and controlling the Warriors' persistant attacks. After some perseverance and excellent teamwork, Owen was in the perfect position to receive a pass, rush in, and slam the ball past the goalkeeper. Hahndorf continued to play strong defence, and Freddie was able to get a shot off by deflecting the ball off an opponent's knee and past the goal line. Nathaniel quickly followed with a goal of his own after making a spectacular solo breakaway down the middle. 3 first-time goal scorers for the season, was great to see!

Despite having a bit of a quieter day, our goalkeepers Scott and Freddie were actively engaged in the game, controlling player movement all over the field and ensuring that our defenders were in good positions at all times. particularly when Hahndorf took a number of corners in both halves.

After having a chat with the boys at halftime about how effectively we were moving the ball and how many fantastic opportunities the amount of good passing was providing. We were focusing a little more on player movement and positioning to ensure that we had players moving into good positions to receive the passes The fact that some of our attacks put three or four players in the ideal position to receive the ball and have a shot on goal showed that the boys are really understanding where to move & how to create opportunities. Making some breakaways out of defence and pushing through the middle Archer, Eddie, Mitchell, and Luca were the building blocks for many plays. Daniel & Jesse were involved in the action throughout the entire game, producing some well-placed passes to players creating numerous attacking chances.

The boys gave the season's greatest collective effort today, working tirelessly to generate opportunities against a tough defence, making the game really entertaining to watch. The team as a whole is confidently & strategically moving the ball all over the field. If we can keep cooperating like this, the results for the rest of the season will continue to be fantastic. It was really amazing to watch!

U9

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club

On this fresh Saturday morning at Hahndorf home ground, the U9’s took on the Rangers in what turned out to be a really solid match.
With a swift first goal scored by Michael Griggs, it may have seemed like it was going to be an easy game. However, the Rangers were tough with their defence and made Hahndorf work for the ball.
Harris Parkyn and Angus Clifton pushed through in  the first half to cover the ball and move it away from the opposition.
A nicely scored couple of goals from Miles Hennessy kept Hahndorf in the game and the first half finished with a stellar tumble and save by goalie Leo Davies.
The second half saw some great footwork by Charlie Roezler to reclaim the ball from Rangers, while Hamish Glynn was ready and waiting to help with defence. When the ball came close to Hahndorf’s end, Saxon Sulskis defended close to the goal square with the ongoing attempts at goal by the opposition.
At final whistle the opposition came out on top but it was was a well fought game by both teams.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc

Wet, cold, and windy weather at Home in Woodside this morning, but the Blues marched onto the pitch unperturbed.

There was pressure on Strath early on from attackers Liam, Adam and Quinn, with Ryland and Kaleb also pushing forward from the mid field. Seeing some great plays starting to delevop between the boys and some excellent passes that hit the mark. Early goals were had by Adam, Will and Liam with Strath struggling to make it inside the square. The midfield played the ball wide, sending passes straight down the line where Adam and Liam were in position and waiting.

The second half saw Strath make some ground but defender Daniel and goal keeper Gage were too fired up to let the ball pass through. Liam was a constant inside the square, pulling off a phenomenal hat trick in the second half to put 5 on the board for the Blues. The boys worked this game together as a team, managing to stay in their positions and on a player quite well.

Excellent game from the Blues

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue

Woodside Gold met Stirling Blue at Woodside on Saturday July 29 in cold but clear conditions.

With four losses and a draw from the first five games of the season, Gold's predominently team of first year players have been steadily improving. This improvement was clearly on show on Saturday as they dominated the Stirling Blue team. Right from the first kick-off Gold scored a goal. Throughout the match Stirling struggled to even get the ball into their attacking half with Gold's defences now understanding what their role is while the midfield and attackers are passing the ball around with confidence.

Every Gold player has improved dramatically while Stirling Blue resembled the Gold team in their first match earlier this season. A highlight for Stirling was an excellent run into attack by one of their girls which was thwarted on the last line by Gold. Stirling just had no answer as Gold's goal-fest continued resulting in Gold's emphatic third win-in-a-row.

Hahndorf Soccer Club White vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club White

Round 12 saw a couple of firsts for Hahndorf U9 White - first game on artificial turf and first game with new rules. The team adjusted well and started enthusiatically against Mt Barker White. Willow Duggan and Saskia Merry worked hard in defence to support Scout Ramsey in goal and to feed the ball forwards to midfielders Kaylee Sheremetjev and Holly Pippos . It was a lively game to watch with the ball moving from side to side with Ramsey making a few good saves. Mt Barker scored the first goal but forwards Amelie Rymer and Charlotte Rymer played well together and repeatedly found space to attack and run on goal. However, their efforts were stopped by Mt Barker's goalie.

In the second half Mt Barker kept pushing forward putting Eden Stell and Pippos, now in defence, under pressure and Merry in goal had to face many shots. Mt Barker dominated the midfield but Duggan and Ramsey managed to play the ball forwards a few times. Unfortunately, C. Rymer and Sheremetjev were stopped by Mt Barker's defenders. It was a good game to watch with all Hahndorf players improving technically from game to game.

U11

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club

In a fiercely contested wet and boggy encounter, the Woodside Warriors found themselves on the wrong side of the result as Stirling Districts clinched a hard-fought victory. The match was defined by a couple of crucial moments where Stirling's attack managed to breach the Warriors' defense, capitalising on their chances to secure the win.

Despite the challenging conditions, both teams displayed tremendous resilience throughout the game. However, it was Stirling Districts' clinical finishing that made all the difference, converting the limited opportunities that came their way. On the other hand, the Warriors showcased their attacking prowess with plenty of shots on goal, but the inability to convert those chances highlighted the need for additional practice in their finishing.

While the Woodside Warriors fought valiantly, the result leaves them with valuable lessons to learn and room for improvement in their offensive execution. They will undoubtedly regroup and work on their finishing to bounce back stronger in future encounters.

U13

Hahndorf Soccer Club (7*) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc White (1)

Hahndorf quickly set in to action with the midfield working hard to keep the ball in the forward half. Sonjay Cook cleared the ball down the centre which resulted in a converted shot by Lawson Shotton and an early score.

Jack Gaskin positioned himself well in defence blocking multiple attempts from Strathalbyn to break through. Harry Wood and Caleb Earley combined well to continuously send the ball forward resulting in multiple scoring opportunities. Cohen Winfield and Shotton combined to put a 2nd goal through.

The spectators enjoyed watching skilful play down the right wing with Eli Parkyn consistently moving the ball forward to create scoring opportunities.  Accurate passing between Louis Moran, Emlyn Gilroy and Rowan Gilroy set up Shotton to continue his strikes on goal. Chris Haynes was influential in the forward line, working well with Parkyn, Ashon Broadbent, Gilroy and Shotton to keep possession in front of goal. Patience and persistence paid off and set up a well-timed goal to Broadbent.

Strathalbyn were persistent but the goals were skilfully protected by goal keeper Jackson Bidgood, who had a clean sheet at the half time break.

The second half saw an early goal to R Gilroy and a further succession of goals to E Gilroy, Broadbent Shaw and Parkyn. Hahndorf’s defenders continued to work hard with Earley consistently putting pressure on the Strathalbyn forwards, with Wood effectively sending the ball forward. This pressure saw Strathalbyn being held to only 1 score for the game. Hahndorf’s 8 goal win was a true team effort.

U15

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club (6*)

After waking to clear skies, the Woodside Warriors U15 faithful were surprised to find themselves enshrouded in dense fog and dripping with icy water on their arrival at Ashton Oval. But after falling agonisingly short in a tight tussle in Round 3, the visitors gave themselves every chance against a Rangers team who have cemented their place as one of the top sides in the league.

The first time these two teams met, it is fair to say that Rangers enjoyed a sound advantage in territory and possession. During that one, Woodside’s defensive press was relentless and clean, putting pressure on the Rangers’ forwards and limiting their time on the ball. This kept the Warriors in the match, and they were able to capitalise on the opportunities that they had. But on a boggy pitch that had the ball either skidding through or propping up, defending cleanly was an intractable challenge. In fact, conditions at Ashton were bordering on atrocious. Not only was the pitch playing all sorts of tricks with the ball, but visibility was often less than 50 metres, with players on the far-side unable to be seen from the coaching box, and the opposition goals visible only in the imagination of each gloveman. Rangers handled these conditions best. After just three minutes they goaled, when a misdirected pass skidded awkwardly through a well-positioned defender and got behind the line. From there, it was the extra speed of the older Rangers’ striker that took him away on goal, where he finished neatly. It was a real kick in the guts for the visitors, who hadn’t yet realized the game was underway. A second goal to Rangers in the tenth minute jolted the visitors into life, but it now felt too late. Against an older, stronger side, poor starts are always punished, and the visitors were now playing catch-up football to try to find a goal of their own.

In Round 3, the Rangers’ plan was to hack the ball long out of defense, rely on bigger bodies up front to win the ball and use their individual skills to attack the line. Today, they looked a more formidable foe. Again, they kicked long into traffic, but when they won the ball, they looked far more dangerous. They were no longer going one out at the line, but passing the ball neatly to beat their opponents. And it paid dividends. Although Woodside had settled and were starting to look more like themselves, the Rangers forwards had their measure. And as a few more balls stretched the Woodside net, the game began to slide.

To their credit, Woodside looked a lot stronger in the second half, and in fact, the last ten minutes belonged to the visitors, as they finally found their ability to press in defense. This frustrated the home side, who thought they should be in total control. On the back of their ability to stand up and fight it out to the bitter end, Woodside created several chances during this period only to be denied by the linesman’s flag and some brilliant saves.

The Rangers should also be credited for their sportsmanship. On several occasions, they skittled a smaller Warriors player in a fair challenge only to stop to help their opponent to their feet. The game should always be played hard and fair and on this day, it was!

Hahndorf Soccer Club (10) vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club (5)

As the drizzle came down, the under 15s from Murray Bridge lined up to take on the home side of Hahndorf. A hush settled over the crowd and all we could hear was the sizzle of the sausages, on the canteen BBQ and the rumbling stomachs of the freshly caffeinated parents.

The whistle blew and we were off to a good start with some high pressure. Harry Gould under immediate pressure from Murray Bridge. The ball went wide and gave Bridge a corner. The corner was crossed and with quick reactions the Bridge striker found the back of the net….. 0:1

Angus Mifsud, Lucy Tinsley-Smith and Cooper Liddle in the mid/back line, were under continuous pressure from a French attacking midfielder who was clearly their best player. Going around 3 or 4 players at a time he made it to the box and shot another goal…. 0:2 the ground was slapped, arms were thrown in the air and a sense of urgency crept into the Hahndorf team.

Someone heard Joash Ng whisper to himself “Fine, I’ll do it myself!” as he then intercepted a pass in the back half and took the ball wide , then sprinted down the wing. Two giant sized Bridge defenders took chase. They couldn’t catch Ng as he was now one on one with the goalie. The goalie came out to meet the attacker, big mistake as Ng expertly bent the ball around the goalie and it landed in the far side net. The Hahndorf players celebrated, and the crowd breathed a sigh of relief. 1:2

Tinsley-Smith pressured a Bridge attacker and took the ball. While hearing mumbles of French expletives she accelerated away with the ball, passing to Liddle, who one touched to Levi Beesley, who one touched back to Liddle, who chipped forward a through pass to the shark like Ng bursting through the midfield. He went deep left then cut back to his deadly right foot and nailed another goal. The urgency now with Murray Bridge as the scores leveled at 2:2

Ng, making it look so easy, I think angered some of the Bridge players as they were quick to retaliate with a strike from 25m out. It went like a rocket into the back of the net…2:3

A hard strike from a Bridge forward just went wide of the goalkeeper Gould. He kicked it back in to almost halfway where Issac Bonilla-Killey was waiting. Accelerating away from the defenders Bonilla-Killey kicked another goal for Hahndorf 3:3

Some great passing from the Bridge team resulted in another goal for them, making it 3:4. Then another intercept in the midfield and the Bridge team landed another goal 3:5

The whistle blew and it was half time. Before I could down a second sausage in bread the whistle blew again and we were into the second half. Gould now out of the goalie position and into the center mid. He was on a fast break, went around 3 players and the 4th tripped him inside the box, for a penalty. The Bridge crowd were unhappy the Hahndorf crowd were very happy! Gould nailed past the keeper to make it now 4:5 Daniel Peters, in defense, gained another turnover , passed to Ng, who chipped over to Gould on the burst and he smashed a top corner goal…. Here we go! 5:5

Hayden Lien reacted instinctively and saved 3 consecutive attempts on goal and finally cleared it out. After a Hahndorf shot on goal it spilled free and Gould jogged in and scored another easy goal…6:5 Jet Zahra, went around 3 players and smashed the ball toward the helpless bridge goalie to get another 7:5. Ng with another 8:5, Gould with another, was saved and bounced out, Zahra took advantage and scored another…9:5 Just when Murray bridge had had enough a corner cross from Hahndorf was own goaled by a disappointed Bridge player making it a final score of 10:5

Mifsud, Luca Cannavo, Tinsley-Smith, Peters, Liddle, Oliver Saracini-Palombo, Jacob Gardner and Pat Hinze were consistently winning possession in the mid and back line all game. The defensive half using great passing gave the attacking mids and forwards lots of opportunities which they didn’t waste. Was a great game, between to very talented sides.

U17

Hahndorf Soccer Club (2) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club (6)

The game started with Hahndorf only having 10 on the park. Stirling began their attack early with Tom Boekel making a great save. Toby Thomas and Rhys Davies combined quickly with some good forward thrust, but to no avail. The match was goalless for the first 15 minutes with Hahndorf feeling the pressure of being one man down. Despite a strong defence from Nick Brown and Zara Tinsley-Smith, Stirling shot 2 goals in quick succession. Gabe Aylen was busy across the backline yet Stirling continued their attack, finishing the first half 4 – 0 up.

Mitch Stribley came in for the second half after Tinsley-Smith had to come off briefly due to a high hit from the ball; however she made a quick recovery and was back on after a short break. Oscar Johnson was busy through the centre; Charlie Zorkovic and Lewis Johnson were also getting in on the action. Thomas and Davies continued to get in on the action however Stirling lifted their game even further and were now up 6 – 0 despite many brave saves from Boekel who was getting a solid workout in goals.

Tinsley-Smith scored late in the match with a brilliant kick 25 m out on the boundary line which sailed past their goalie. A good headed goal to Stirling made it 7 – 1 but Tinsley-Smith hadn’t finished her game yet! A great cross from Thomas to Tinsley-Smith saw her score a second goal for Hahndorf making the final score 7- 2.

A good, fair game was played by both sides along with great work from the Refs & lines people.

Well done everyone!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Rams (2) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club (3)

Round 12                     Woodside Rams Vs  Stirling                    Venue Birdwood

It was a day with large anticipation as every game we have had has been close and it could go either way.

It began as expected with Stirling coming out firing and they managed to score in the first minute, which straight away put us on the back foot.

Woodside Rams decided they needed to switch on an on they came.

Our goalie although injured managed to dive on a few and our mid field was looking stronger than ever with 2 girls having potentially the best game of their season.

And before I knew it our midfield pushed around our forwards and managed to sink a goal into the net.

Scores were level again.

we were not done yet , one of our regular forwards was feeling the desire to get into the action and she managed to get a run and also hit the back of the net, that was 3 weeks in a row now for her.

A change in our mind set now as we had put ourselves out in front to make sure they do not score again.

It was scary, but we were continuously pushing the ball from one end to the other both teams up for the fight corners at both ends and no one able to put anymore on the board.

Half time whistle blew and time to recharge .

The Girls were warned that Stirling will come out firing in the first minute as they always come charging out of the gates and as predicted 3 minutes into the second half they pulled out the equalizer, and then a little shell shocked they did it again.

On the back foot again.

Woodside rams were not going to go down without a fight and fight we did . corner after corner after corner , but we just couldn’t get it into the net. Over the top the ball sawed still no equalizer.

Players were pulling themselves off left right and centre saw and broken, but this told us they were putting everything on the line.

The final whistle blew and this time Stirling took home the victory, but to be honest I think that both teams won as a game like that is what you play soccer for, great game to both the teams.
