Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club

On the boggy pitch at Rob Kilpatrick Park this wintery Saturday, Hahndorf U7’s took on a scant Rangers team in a 7v7 ‘scratch match’. After a quick reshuffle, Hahndorf players William Moran, Alfie McConville, Axel Pym, Patrick Griggs, Asa Bartsch, Victor Bartsch, and Finn Bond (goalkeeper) took to the field, with Chloe Pippos, Avery Buchanan, and Michael Griggs (U9, goalkeeper) joining the Rangers. Moran, Pym, and the Bartsch brothers quickly formed a strong offensive attack, with a number of attempts at goal – most of which hit the mark. Buchanan and Pippos played strong defence for the Rangers, with both managing a number of touches. McConville, P. Griggs, and Bond made up Hahndorf’s defensive line, which had a fairly quiet first half, pushing McConville and P. Griggs further forward.

Returning after half time saw Pippos and Buchanan rejoin the Hahndorf side, and a change in goalkeeper to Moran. Pym and A. Bartsch joined the Rangers, with M. Griggs remaining as their goalkeeper. The second half started with the same enthusiasm as the first, with Bond, McConville, and Pippos assisting a number of goal attempts by V. Bartsch and P. Griggs, however goals were a little harder to come by in the second half, with only V. Bartsch scoring for Hahndorf. A. Bartsch and Pym led the Rangers offense, with both putting in a stellar effort, and Pym even scoring a goal! The second half however, was unfortunately marred by rain, at which time a number of players’ interests shifted from the game to the muddy puddles! The game soon finished, with a number of children remarking that it was weird playing against their teammates, showing how cohesive this little U7s team has become in the past 10 rounds! The Hahndorf team and officials would like to thank the Rangers team and officials for a washed out and muddy game!

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Bridgewater Soccer Club White

It was another brisk July special that awaited the travelling support of the Hahndorf Under 8s at Mt Barker Saturday morning. Battling all sorts of blockages, sniffles and holiday making during the week the Magpies did well to field a full team against Bridgewater.

Despite the cold, our goalkeepers were kept warm (and somewhat shell shocked) by a very strong attacking side.

Art Jager and Carter Karamanov started the game strongly with some excellent tackling and passing.

Goalkeeper for the first half, Will Neelawala was very accurate with his passing out from the back. This was very impressive given the distance he was getting on some of the passes as he put the laces through them!
He continued the half with a fine performance in goal, with some great saves.

Zeek Neelawala and Charlie Kilpatrick put in the hard yards in midfield. Possession was hard to come by but when they did have it, both looked for passing options and demonstrated great vision and positioning.

Kealan Atkinson continued to show the quality of his strong passing game as he continued his good form of the last few weeks.

The half finished with an apparently urgent impromptu costume change from Kilpatrick. As impressive and informative as it was watching him attempt to remove a jumper from under his soccer shirt without removing said soccer shirt; this match reporter felt somewhat obliged to assist so Kilpatrick could continue to earn his exorbitant wages on the pitch.

The second half started with some wonderful running from Brooklyn Karamanov. Great defending by Bridgewater had blocked most of his runs in the first half but he started to find some gaps in the second. A good combination with W Neelawala lead to Hahndorf’s only real chance on goal, a shot that was well saved by the keeper. Shortly after, the heavens opened and sweetly reminded us all of the labour of love we undertake on these Saturday mornings.

Art put in a fine half as keeper. Diving into the wet artificial turf to make a number of quality saves while he was peppered by the opposing team.

Kilpatrick held the left midfield well and had a couple of good runs shut down by strong defending.

Z Neelawala and C Karamanov put in some quality tackles against very talented strikers. Their determination and continued effort was great to watch.

The referee blew his whistle to signify the end of his officiating an under 8s non competitive football game. This sweet sound brought forth the promise of warmth and baked goods. Well done Hahndorf, a great effort against a very strong team today.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue

U8 - Round 10 – 23/8/2023

Woodside Warriors Blue Vs Woodside Warriors Red

Woodside Recreation Ground – Modified Pitch – 5:00pm

The Warriors' Red first night game was a Derby Match versus the Warriors' U8 Blue team. With the music playing and the smell of BBQ wafting across the field, the boys couldn't wait to get the game started. Both teams were extremely eager to compete against their training partners.

As the game began, it was a closely contested battle, with both teams moving the ball around and calculating where they might be able to break through the rival defences. With attacks coming from both sides of the pitch, the Reds began to put pressure on the Blue Defence. Mitchell and Jessie went into the Reds' midfield and were able to generate some quick runs, allowing Freddie and Luca, who were moving well up front, to get a couple shots off. In the end, neither team was able to get the ball past the keeper, and the game was locked 0-0 at halftime.

It was telling a similar story to the first half as the second half began. this time the reds had Eddie, Nathaniel and Daniel were working hard up front, making sure they were in good positions and moving the ball around a well-organised defence. After a few breakaway attacks, Scott managed to put one in the net, giving us our first goal of the night. As the half went on Archer was also able to break through the defence and add to the tally. The guys did great moving the ball through a tough defensive unit, constantly applying pressure and attempting a variety of plays in order to get through.

The game ended with everyone having a good time and patiently waiting for the BBQ Sausages. Both sides performed brilliantly, with every player on the field putting in their best effort. It was fantastic to see the quality of players provided by the Warriors club, with both sides performing to an incredibly high standard.

Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue vs F.C Summit White

It was wet. It was soggy. It was windy and cold. But we got out there and had some muddy fun. Once again, our work on the wing was on point, and we had some spectacular saves by both our goalies. In the end, summit fc managed to get passed our defences. We faced a very strong team today. Our tenacity is starting to show as we keep on turning up and putting in our best, despite our very tough competition. I'm particularly proud of our team today. From coaches, parents and players. We all showed up, in spite of some pretty challenging conditions. Warm baths well deserved today. Good work team. Rest up. We have a break next week. Looking forward to our next game in two weeks time.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Gold vs Murray Bridge United Soccer Club

After the two early games at Woodside on July 8 were called off at half-time due to the weather, the 10am match against Murray Bridge looked in jeopardy.

But as the Bridge players had travelled a good distance it was decided to start the game. From the kick-off the tall Murray Bridge players held sway and Gold were struggling to get the ball back into their half. Diminutive Toby Smith in goal saved some solidly-hit shots while Jack Hogan, Ashley Hendrie and the ever-improving Mason Payne began interupting Bridge's flow into attack. Suddenly Jo Smith took off with a withering run down the left and calmly netted the ball past the keeper.

The Gold team lifted and within minutes Jo duplicated what he had done minutes before. The play was now mostly in Gold's attacking half and Logan Pielago dodged three Bridge players and only needed to trickle the ball past the keeper when his final strike got stuck in the mud. Soon after the ball fell for Toby Riechmann and he duly obliged making it 3-0 at the break.

The second half started as the first with the ball whizzing up and down the pitch but no team gaining an advantage. The two Tobys had switched roles and while Toby Riechmann saved some good attempts on goal, Toby Smith took off from the half-way line dribbling past opposition players before slamming the ball into the net.

Just as the ref blew time the heavens opened and everyone ran for cover but at least the match was completed and it was a well deserved result for the Gold team.

Hahndorf Soccer Club Black vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

The rain stopped just minutes before Hahndorf Under 9’s took on Mount Barker United Red at Rob Kilpatrick Park late Saturday morning. Miles Hennessy started off the game strong, scoring a goal within the first opening minute. However, that made Mount Barker United eager to get stuck into the game which then resulted in a very evenly matched first half. Angus Ross and Saxon Sulskis kept the pressure on Mount Barker United in defense turning the ball around before Mount Barker had any attempts at goal. Harris Parkyn did wonderful in the midfield, bringing the ball up the line and passing it onto Michael Griggs and Hennessy who both had some excellent shots at goal.

The second half saw Leo Davies as goalkeeper again who showed his goalkeeping skills and made some amazing saves. Mount Barker United put a lot of pressure on our defense, however the boys managed to get it out of the opposition forward line and with some good passing by our midfields Charlie Roeszler and Parkyn we managed to get a few more shots at goal.

Congratulations to both teams for a well-played game!

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue vs Rangers Junior Soccer Club

Hahndorf Soccer Club vs Nairne Knights Soccer Club

This morning Nairne hosted Hahndorf in a game where both teams were exposed to all elements and a difficult pitch to play in places.

Hahndorf’s first half attacking pressure was high, skilful and team oriented. The sustained effort over the game resulting in players scoring multiple times. The second half saw a resurgent and determined Nairne team capitalise and remain competitive.

Nico Moran was busy through the game, quick to open the scoring for Hahndorf from the wing and was equally busy in the goals for the second half. Danny Morgan was creative, working the Nairne defenders with delicate footwork and scoring from his efforts.

Henley Crook was in the mix up forward, working hard and when the opportunity presented itself, he goaled. Harrison Whitehead was on the receiving end of a well centred pass and finished off with a goal showcasing his skill today.

Thomas Gould read the play well as goal keeper in tricky conditions quickly sending the ball back forward for Hahndorf and was rewarded with his efforts goaling in the second.

Yit Xuan Chok proved to be hard to get past in defence putting his body on the line solidly defending for Hahndorf with high work rate.

Pearl Beesley started the game in ably in defence covering space well and began the second half scoring early for Hahndorf with a strong kick.

Mason Saywell was busy covering a lot of ground over the game with passes to players in space and goaled part way through the second half.

Archie Keogh was in the mix through the game going forward with the ball and making many gains down the wing working well with his Hahndorf counterparts.

Despite starting on the side Noah Duggan came on with quick impact scoring from wide with skill and had a presence on the pitch.

Archie Greene was everywhere on the pitch today and with his repeat efforts was able to goal.

Well done to both teams with the game played in a good spirit despite the trying conditions.

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Red vs Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red

In an action-packed match, Woodside Warriors under 11 Red soccer team showcased their skill and determination against Mt Barker Red. The game started with both teams vying for control, but it was Woodside who took the lead with a brilliant display of teamwork and passing. The young athletes quickly got into good positions, enabling them to create numerous scoring opportunities.

As the rain poured down, the Warriors remained undeterred and continued to dominate the first half. Their relentless efforts were rewarded with a well-deserved lead on the scoreboard, leaving their opponents struggling to keep up. However, unfortunate weather conditions forced the referee to call off the game during the second half, leaving both teams unable to complete the match.

Despite the early end, Woodside Warriors displayed incredible teamwork and commendable skills, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season. The future looks promising for this talented under 11 Red soccer team as they strive to conquer more challenges on the field. The oppsition wasn't so lippy this time round!

U13

Hahndorf Soccer Club (5) vs Blackwood Forest Soccer Club (3)

Blackwood arrived very early to a sodden Rob Kilpatrick Park, and their extensive warmup paid off, with an early goal in the first few minutes catching the Hahndorf players off guard. It wasn’t long before the Hahndorf team found their groove, with methodical passing in the midfield between Louis Moran and Eli Parkyn, who were able to get the ball to Emlyn and Rowan Gilroy. This led to early chances for Lawson Shotton, who managed to hammer a long range shot toward the Blackwood keeper, who couldn’t secure the ball and it found its way into the back of the net to make it 1-1. Blackwood then managed to fight back, with several moves forward that tested Jackson Bidgood in goal. Eventually Blackwood managed to get one through to put them 2-1 up. Hahndorf quickly responded with great ball movement from Caleb Earley and Chris Haynes that managed to set Shotton up for his second on the day. The back and forth continued with Blackwood managing to get another past the Hahndorf defence to take them 3-2 up. Some positional changes and substitutions got Cohen Winfield involved, who opened up the Blackwood defence with some excellent passing. Parkyn moving to right midfield tested the Blackwood defenders with his pace. The increased Hahndorf pressure resulted in Shotton’s third of the half and had the teams back on level terms going into half time.

The second half saw these two evenly matched teams continue the battle in their respective midfields, with Blackwood not making the most of a couple of opportunities in the Hahndorf box. The Hahndorf defence then really tightened the screws, strangling Blackwood’s ball movement and beginning to push further into their attacking half. Whinfield and Haynes gave their Blackwood opposition little room to move whenever they tried to move the ball forward. The reintroduction of Moran into the mid field proved pivotal, with his calm and decisive ball movement in the midfield consistently finding Ashon Broadbent deep in the Blackwood defence. This constant pressure resulted in several Hahndorf corners and opportunities to score. Eventually the Blackwood dam broke with Emlyn Gilroy putting one past the keeper to make it 4-3. The Hahndorf players weren’t content to sit on a 4-3 lead, figuring the best form of defence is attack, with Moran again finding space in the midfield and finding Emlyn Gilroy who put the result beyond doubt with a long range shot to make it 5-3. This was how it remained at full time. The boys pulled off a thoroughly deserved win against a very good side in Blackwood in what was at times atrocious conditions on a very heavy pitch.

Mount Barker United Soccer Club Red (3) vs Strathalbyn Strikers FC Inc Red (2)

Round 10 of the U13 league saw Mt Barker Red host Strath Red at the Summit Sport Park.
Although Strath was missing one of their key players, the home side knew it would be foolish to underestimate the 3rd-placed Strikers, who had drawn with the undefeated Stirling the week prior.
From kick-off, Mt Barker was braced for the Strikers to bring the heat, so placed 2 of their more experienced players in the central defensive roles. The communication and organisation of the defensive line was admirable, but what was perhaps more impressive was their ability to create counter-attacks from deep in the back half.
And so, less than 10 minutes into the match, the underdogs had struck first; a counter out of the back line finding the feet of a lethal goal-kicker, whose speed and precision found the back of the net with authority.
The home side knew that a 1-goal lead would not do against such a strong rival, and by the 20th minute, the lead had doubled through some excellent passing out of the midfield, and another sizzling run by the striker. With the score at 2-0, Barker was starting to believe that they could cause another upset, after their memorable game against Murray Bridge the previous week. On the 30th minute, the Reds had scored yet again, after a cracking shot from the edge of the box deflected off a Strath defender and into the net. While a 3-0 half-time scoreline seemed an inevitability, some strong words of motivation from the Strath officials and players revved the visitors into gear; in the 35th minute, they had dragged one back, with a cracking run from the league's top goal scorer, stirring life into the Strikers.

As the 2nd half began, Mt Barker began to tire; with a quintet of absentees, the Crusaders had called upon an U11 and U12 to play up. After a heroic first 50 minutes dominating the midfield, the U12 super-sub limped off with a minor injury, leaving no fresh legs on the bench. Strath began to push the home side deeper into their defensive half, with the Crusaders absorbing an enormous amount of pressure. Even though the traffic in the Barker defensive half resembled Glen Osmond Rd at peak hour, the Crusaders continued to counter up the wings at every opportunity, and got perilously close to scoring a 4th, as a Strath defender-keeper mix-up led to an indirect free kick inside the box; the resulting shot clanged off the crossbar, and Strath countered back; a through ball from their defending half finding the feet of their central striker, who bolted into the space and had no troubles securing a brace for the match.
The scoreline remained at 3-2 until the final whistle blew, and Mt Barker rejoiced after another victory in an exciting, see-sawing, roller-coaster of a contest.
Although this is the only time Mt Barker and Strath play each other in the regular season, pundits will be watching the knock-out stages of the U13 Cup with intrigue, as both teams remain in the running to face-off again under the Wednesday night lights of the Summit later on in the year.

U15

Woodside Warriors Soccer Club Blue (0) vs Stirling Districts Soccer Club Blue (6)

After a June that dumped more than twice as much rain as normal, and a wet start to July, ladder leaders Stirling Districts Blue hosted Woodside Warriors U15 on the synthetic surface of the Summit for the first reverse fixture of the season.

Stirling Blue are undefeated this season and have averaged well over the six goals per game listed by the AHJFA. They’re a big, strong side and Woodside knew that they would have their work cut out for them. But they turned up ready to show their mettle and demonstrate what being a Warrior means. From the outset Stirling looked strong. They move the ball well, control possession and build pressure. To combat this, Woodside knew that they must play smart defensive football – Press they must, but diving-in was a cardinal sin in this contest, and the penance would be the ball in the back of their net. For the first ten minutes of play, Woodside achieved their primary goal for the day of keeping the enemy out. Although supremely talented, Stirling could not penetrate the box and were forced to shoot under pressure, from well outside. This gave the Warriors’ gloveman time to make a couple of comfortable saves in the opening quarrels. However, as tension mounted, Stirling found their first goal from a momentary lapse in pressure.  This gave the talented Stirling striker time on the ball around 35 yards from goal. He unloaded, curling the ball neatly into the net with the kind of strike that is seldom seen in Hills Junior Football. Although disappointing for the Warriors, their ability to keep Stirling outside impressed all in attendance. Soon after, Woodside got tangled up trying to play out from the back and conceded again. On the back of this goal, Woodside rallied, lifting themselves to the contest – fighting and scrapping for the ball, clearing to safety and going again. But despite their best efforts, Stirling scored another two goals in the first half. One, a long shot when the keeper was unsighted, and the other a second long-bomb, that belied the normal level seen in under fifteen football. A high boot from Stirling also punctuated the first half, resulting in a red card (although there was clearly no malice in the action) and a severe swollen and bloody nose for the Woodside striker, who was unable to take any further part in the match.

The second half saw a redoubling of effort from the young Warriors. Stirling again dominated possession and territory, but in the second term Woodside were able to break out on a few occasions, only to be run down by an organised Stirling defense. The efforts of Woodside resulted in a halving of the number of shots on their goal in the second half, although two long shots slipped through to extend the Stirling lead. One of these was a long, low shot that skidded off the wet synthetic surface to meg the well-positioned keeper. But again, Woodside stood proud of their defensive formation, with Stirling unable to create any goals from inside the area. Both Woodside glovemen, also had spectacular days, including the use of the nose to save a certain goal. Unfortunately, this led to another blood-stained guernsey and another player forced from the contest through facial injury.

The game was also played in fine spirit, with the young Warriors gracious in defeat and the Stirling unit demonstrating humility in victory.
